  1. Initially the precip will be from disturbances riding along a west to east stalled boundary. By mid week a coastal low will develop. The result will be multiple rounds of rain and  likely 2-3"+ across much of the region. Even the local desert climo areas should do pretty well. Hoping for an underperformer here.

Yea I’m ok with the first part of the storm…I just despise the cloudy/breezy/meh weather that those systems can bring as they hang around until the traffic clears.
  2. House sitting/dog sitting in Olney and have heard several rumbles so far along with lightning.  Yep, didn't expect that after glancing at the radar a little while ago.  It was somewhat mild/humid today, though.

Who wants some more snow?  From this mornings AFD

Mountain Snow (Thursday/Friday): The first in a series of cold
fronts crosses the area early Wednesday morning, as the base of the
cutoff mid-level low moves across PA/NY. Colder temperatures surge
into the Alleghenies by Wednesday afternoon, causing precip to
transition from rain to snow by Wednesday night. Favorable dynamics
and ample moisture could result in a prolonged period of upslope
mountain snow. Marginal temperatures likely limit accumulations
through Wednesday evening, then better chance for snow to stick
Thursday into Friday. The GFS in particular is much higher than the
other guidance, showing significant snow accumulations late in the
week. At the very least 1-3", possibly up to 4-5", of accumulating
snow is possible at the higher elevations. Light snow could fall as
    east as the Blue Ridge/Catoctins

Looks like a miserable stretch of weather incoming this week.

  4. THIS ^^ this or snowshoeing thru deep stuff is what I like to do nowadays.

One thing I like about hiking is that I’m moving my legs. I’ve skied out west several times in pure powder and it’s pretty great, but it is a restrictive movement. That was always my least favorite part of it…otherwise, it’s pretty cool being able to glide down a mountain…especially when it’s snowing.

I haven’t tried snowshoeing, but I do have Snowshoe on my list lol.
  5. And a fiery shiny new base state, monster Hadley Cells and a fooked up MJO, alongside very warm sea surface temps!
I am really stoked for some decent Category 6 tropical cyclone action this fall!
This could be the fall Miami gets on the proverbial  chopping block, with a slow moving superheated high end Cat 5 with 245mph sustained winds in the eyewall, sporting a truly monster 40 foot storm surge coming at MIA like Jaws 18 from the SSE at 1 mph, buzzsawing hell out of Miami with millions stuck on the A1A. You know Reed Timmer and Josh Morgerman of iCyclone are both gonnabe tryin to cover that extraordinary extravaganza of a megastorm!

Get ya popcorn ready…the east coast is due for some stemwinders.
  6. Clouds are on the increase again. That’s one thing we’ve been doing extremely well during this multi-year snow drought. That and a breeze. Must be tied to an overall busier Pacific/warmer waters.

  7. As someone that HASN'T been on skis for 20 years I agree with you both. HATED the 'mushy' of late spring (or a rapid warm up in winter to cause those conditions) but also never liked ice. Therefore, I no long ski lol. Just too few 'good/great' days around here even back then. Likely my WORST day ever was at the Homestead in mid Jan with 31/32 and light freezing rain. Think everyone on the slopes would have been better off with a pair of ice skates on.

You mean you don’t miss overpriced resorts, schlepping skis all over the place, and having to wear 25 lbs of gear?

I’m exaggerating, but there are definitely reasons why I haven’t skied in a while. Long story short…it’s kind of a drag lol.

I’m due for a trip, though…maybe next winter I’ll shake the rust off.

That said, I do enjoy hiking in the snow…was hoping for more of those opps this past winter.

Drove through 31F, heavy snow, with approx 1" on the ground through east PA on I-84 today.  Get back to VA and it's sunny, 65F, hurricane winds and wildfires again.  I'm so goddamn sick of this place.

The former sounds lovely in December, not in late March...though I could do without wildfire smoke.

  9. The idea of moving to the Great Lakes or Northeast/New England sounds nice on paper, but I swear just about every time I look at the satellite imagery there's clouds there.  I don't think I could deal with that over long stretches.  I feel like there's already enough cloudy/windy days here lol.

  10. Color aside , teams have a better chance to win more games with Kirk than with Justin at this point, it is no longer a build for the future league, it's a win now league - it's that simple... After all the Bears are going to replace Justin with another black mobile QB who might be a better passer ... The final game still features QBs that are primarily big time passers whether they are mobile/athletic or not and regardless of color...........

The emphasis on protecting player’s health has created more space in basketball and football…prob hockey, too. It’s all about mobility now. Going forward, I think you’ll see more and more qb’s being able to scramble in the same way you pretty much have to be able to shoot the ball well in the nba, at least through the 1-4 positions.
