i'm still a renter (top floor), but definitely feel for those with basements in this area right now. with that said, i need to buy a home at some point, so i can get a weather station. this would have been a fun day for that.
nasty little cell just moved through just southeast of gambrill state park. wind was legit for a minute or two. i'm assuming a little microburst embedded.
yep, the soaker has begun here. can no longer see the catoctin's. kinda cool being able to watch the cloud deck lowering as the storms move in from the west. no lightning, though...just a steady downpour.
had to abort the yellow poplar trail at gambrill again. this time i got thoroughly drenched after being about halfway through and took the road back because i also underestimated how long it would take to finish lol. this everyday isolated storms/downpours thing is becoming a thing. that said, the trail was in pretty good shape, so maybe the ground can withstand what's coming up the next few days.
I think that area will do better in fringe winter events. Growing up in southern Moco, sleet makes an early entrance at times while those areas towards Frederick/Washington counties (and even Germantown) might stay all snow. Prob would do better with clippers as well. Not sure how that area would do with lake effect stuff though…might need to be closer to Cumberland/frostburg.
How did you like that area by the way compared to Hagerstown? (Figured I’d ask as I wait for the storm here lol). Some nice homes up there. I work remote and have been exploring the area.
Yea so far I don’t like my decision. Was halfway through and heard rumbles, and radar looked healthy. Prob could have finished it. Maybe they’ll reorganize over the hills. Seeing some signs of that towards walkersville.
Just commented on that. Tho looks pretty dark from my view over gambrill state park. These systems lately have often times just rained themselves out. Lack of shear I guess, though not sure.
Just aborted a trail at gambrill (yellow poplar), but starting to look like I didn’t need to lol. Will see. Still learning how these systems form up this way. Looks like the catoctins can add a little lift/injection as they drop in from Hagerstown/pa.
i missed the dc storm, but was driving down 270 at the time and could see the lightning. looked similar to the one i experienced in germantown the other day. just basically rained itself out, but had a good deal of lightning. these cells have been legit the last couple weeks and the taller cumulonimbus clouds have provided some picturesque views lately.
I went biking at Schaeffer after work and heard some rumbles. Wasn’t until after that the flood gates opened. Ended up getting a prolific downpour with a bunch of lightning. Pretty diesel little storm.
