  1. The summer of clouds and humidity. I had another heavy shower today. This dry, cool spell sure has been humid and damp lol. I'm looking forward to the first real frontal passage of the fall. Sudden strong NW winds and dry, cool air, with blue sky.

The haze today was dumb. Hopefully, this doesn’t become a longterm trend. Looking forward to a southerly flow because it’ll mean less of a chance at smoky skies.

  2. There is a haze as well going on. Smoke at higher altitude I guess, but there was some mixing down possibly responsible for what I smelled on a walk early this morning.

It’s gotten noticeably worse here. I have a view south towards Sugarloaf which is hardly visible.

So we have stuff we need to get done, but came out to have lunch on the deck and have been sitting here for close to 2 hours. Nice to not hear all the air conditioners running non stop. The birds are singing and the cows are mooing. Glorious!

The argument could be made that this is the nicest day we've had all year.  Those that don't like warmer temps, get drier air...and vice versa, contrapositive, etc.

No mist up here. Cloudy and cool

Same here.  Actually feels pretty awesome lol, though I'll probably be done with this reset by tomorrow and ready for the return to seasonable weather.

  5. Catoctin Creek is running pretty low again. This area could use a deluge at this point, but the models aren’t showing a whole lot from this event for the rain shadow zones. Hopefully we can at least get a line of cells to move through.

  6. CoCoRaHS for July 3 to today shows widespread 7-9 plus inch amounts in southern MoCo and 4-6 inches around Gaithersburg, compared to 0.8 here.  What an incredible micro-climate desert this place is, and it's not just this year.  This is normal.  What a tough place to try to have a gardening hobby.

Similar boat here and, frankly, maybe more of a micro because I’m right up against Gambrill State Park/Watershed. Grass is not just a tint of brown, but legitimately getting brown.

  7. So got a nice .36” out of that storm. But you know it is still so humid out when the windows are all steamed up. Looking out the back I can usually see the tree line in the dark. But the windows are so fogged over you cannot see anything.

I’ve been in the rain hole shown iweather, though today has a different vibe so far. Sunny and humid start here. We’ll see if anything can tap into the fuel.

  8. PA really does seem to do better with storms overall. I always kinda liked their climate (aside from probably more clouds). Less concerns about the sleet line in the winter and closer to shortwaves swinging through the Midwest. Their roads do suck, though.

  9. Typical storm death as it approached mby, only to explode across the usual storm track over Strasburg.  Picked up .05" and have since been listening to constant thunder from that storm the last 30 minutes.  Oh, the frustration of living here.

The mountains are too powerful for these wimpy frontal passages and shortwaves for our valleys. We need more of the forcing that we had in May and June.
