For those in N IL/Chicago metro, don't expect that complex out west to come rolling through with any interest.
0z DVN sounding is underwhelming to say the least...And mesoanalysis is way overdone.
EDIT: Disregard the above. COD having issues per usual these days, and the 0z sounding it showed me was actually from 12z. The environment is hot...carry on.
Plus I thought the LLJ was also expected to kick in this evening and overnight even though instability should wane.

33 tornado preliminary reports so far on SPC page. Must admit I did not expect this for today.

Mesoscale Discussion 1287
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0542 PM CDT Wed Jul 14 2021Areas affected...Eastern IA...Northern IL...Southern WI
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch likely
Valid 142242Z - 142345Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...80 percent
SUMMARY...Severe threat is increasing across eastern IA/northwestern
IL into southern WI. New ww will likely be warranted soon.DISCUSSION...Early-day MCS has progressed across the upper Midwest
with the leading edge now spreading across LE. Considerable
boundary-layer disruption has been noted across WI/northern IL into
extreme northeast IA. However, over the last few hours, partial
clearing across eastern IA has allowed surface temperatures to warm
into the lower 80s from east of ALO-MXO-CWI-north of C75 in
Illinois. Further recover appears likely to near the WI/IL border
over the next few hours. While updrafts may struggle to be truly
surface-based where temperatures struggle to rise above 75F, there
is increasing concern/confidence that ongoing supercells over
central IA will progress east of ww378 into a region that is
recovering in the wake of earlier convection. Ample shear/buoyancy
suggest supercells will continue, along with a tornado threat.
Additionally, LLJ is forecast to increase across southern/central WI
this evening and this should encourage renewed convective
development. New ww will likely be issued soo -
TWC also showing some good video.
-
Interesting that winds are backed se to the west of the initial line of storms and surface low has deepened slightly in se CO.

Mesoscale Discussion 1282
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0201 PM CDT Wed Jul 14 2021Areas affected...southern Wisconsin...far northern Illinois
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch possible
Valid 141901Z - 142100Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...40 percent
SUMMARY...Isolated wind damage or marginal hail will be possible
over the next few hours, mainly focused over southern Wisconsin.DISCUSSION...An extensive line of storms currently stretches from
central into southern WI, and across northwest IL where the line
contains less trailing stratiform precipitation. Indications of
strong to possible severe gusts are currently present with activity
north of the IL border, and these storms may persist as the air mass
remains favorably unstable despite high cloud cover. Around 1000
J/kg MLCAPE exists ahead of these storms, extending south into IL.Some uptick in storm intensity is possible as the line moves into
slightly more unstable air. Aside from isolated damaging gusts,
marginal hail may occur at times. Convective trends are currently
being monitored for watch potential...Jewell/Bunting.. 07/14/2021

Possible watch incoming for ne Illinois per SPC.

Yes, and after they move through we should have some increased helicity and boundaries with time to recover before the next wave comes through later this evening and night. I also like our 70 plus dews here and to our sw.
-
Storm evolution does depend on MCS to our west but I like good mid level lapse rates in our area southward for later today and night.

Am currently liking prospects for training t storms and possible multiple rounds over the Chi town area later this afternoon and evening.. At 2:30 a.m. CDT this a.m. t storms extend south through Nebraska almost to the KS line. Have a hunch the enhanced might be pulled a hair southward as well as we go through the day. Possibly one of the few and far between interesting days we have had this year coming up for our region.

I believe Gerald Ford's motorcade was in the O'Hare area around the time that a tornado passed by on 3/12/1976.
Yes, I remember reading about that. General t storms today.....maybe some more organized storms this weekend or just south of us.
