Back to light snow now
-
We’ve seen a lot of dry slots from winter storms in the valley before.
But I don’t recall the middle of a storm looking like the eye of a hurricane.- 1

All sleet here for the past hour. The fun is over here.
-
Had a lull and now a sleet/snow mix as the winds pick up.
-
Light dusting on everything except the pavement.

7.3" now reported just NE of Jackson, MS...crazy
That is just insane!
A few flakes just started here. 33 degrees. Let’s see how long it lasts.- 2

Under a mesoscale discussion now for the 3rd storm in a row. It is meant more for the mountains but the western edge of the circle still makes it here.

Convection in the Gulf of Mexico looks vertical to me instead of parallel to the coast line. Hopefully it stays that way and doesn’t race too far out in front to the east.

12z NAM was really digging the energy down the front range of the Rockies at the end of its run.

Flurries continuing. Temp 25.
Total storm accumulation: 2”- 5

I wish they had built a ski resort near the top of the knob in the 1940s, how different would Norton look like if so! Max elevation at the top is...what? 4200' ? Ski down into the bottom with well over 1000 vertical drop (beech and sugar only drop 7-900 ft) would of been an epic setup. Norton looks great in snow
From Norton to the top of High Knob is a 2,000 foot elevation difference. They have a 10k race that starts in Norton and follows the road to the top. I have “ran” it the past 3 years. Some of the switchbacks you could almost crawl up the mountain. Would of been a great place for a ski resort.- 4

Last good band is coming thru now. The flow has now switched out of the northwest. 1.5” currently.

Just to show the microclimates. 41 when I left Kingsport on the south side of Bays Mountain down to 32 when I got to the state line in Virginia. Snowing pretty solidly here in Weber City with the ground white.

Still all rain on the south side of Kingsport near Cattails. Haven’t seen a flake yet. I did not think a warm nose would be an issue for this event this far north but it was.
Congrats to those who got some good stuff! -
Nothing at all hitting the ground in Kingsport

Some of these flakes are bigger than golf balls. I don't think I've ever seen snowflakes this big.
Where are you at again? I forgot lol. -
The weeklies snow map. Obviously can't be taken verbatim but shows the potential of the pattern we are looking at over the next several weeks of winter.
Also appears to imply the storm track would run up the East Coast as well.
18z NAM and RGEM runs were similar for sticking snow for a large portion of our state Thursday evening and night.- 3

Had switched to all snow but getting dry slotted at the moment.

WPC post the Surface Analysis, spc post when ever they think is warrant
Sorry, I should of clarified in my question. I was curious as to the last time that had happened for our forum area. As in severe meso one day then winter meso the next from the SPC.- 1

When is the last time that the SPC has issued a mesoscale discussion for tornadoes/severe weather and then for heavy snow the very next day?

The 15z HRRR was a little deeper at 995mb and was tucked more up against the western tip of South Carolina than the 12z HRRR (996 mb and a little bit east of that).
The trend is our friend as the saying goes. And all models have been trending toward a slower and deeper low tucked up against the mountains.- 2

What is crazy is that it rained like crazy here, but barely raised many of the urban streams. On a positive note, my yard turned green almost over night!
I was confused by this as well considering the rains we had over the weekend. I guess the ground needed a good soaking.- 1

The Euro Weeklies are hinting at developing dry with possible drought conditions developing through the next 6 weeks. The spigot, after several years of good rains, is off. TBD on when it returns. Thinking this might be the beginning of a very dry time frame measuring in months if not years - but THAT is getting far to ahead of myself.
Just curious question here. Are the weeklies showing a lot of heat to go along with the dryness? Those two seem to go together in summer. -
I picked a bad day to mow. Lol

Have finally made it to 1.75. Lol. Light snow continues. 23 degrees. This system has been one big tease I will say.
