I measured 7.3" - this was the combination of two six-hour measurements on the snowboard (clearing after the first measurement). That's my 2nd biggest event since moving here (HECS 2016 was #1).
@csnavywx nailed it for southern MD - nice job!
The map for 4-6” was last updated at 4:45am and the point and click (which tallies up to 3-5”) was last updated 7:29am. Not sure if LWX will downgrade us to advisory but maybe northern Calvert is still on the table for WSW level snow, I haven’t checked.
Heavy sleet here too although my thermometer says 36. Never had problems with accuracy before but you all are several degrees lower so it must be a little off.
LWX dropped my point and click to 2-4” today and up to 1” tonight. Map went from 6-8” to 4-6”.
Wow that would be awesome! I’ve had several 6-6.5” events over the last few years, but anything over that would make it my biggest event besides the Jan ‘16 HECS.
This just feels more like a northern tier storm to me which is why I’m not really involved. I think we’re getting a lot more rain than advertised. 1/3-1/4 was our storm of the year IMHO
The Preliminary Monthly Climate Data (CF6) report from Wakefield lists 1/17 as a T now, which is also consistent with this map: http://www.weather.gov/akq/Jan17_2018
Same here- this is my 5th winter here in Prince Frederick and I can’t believe I have managed at least one WSW event every year since I’ve moved here. It’s this thread dude! Lol
Perfect song for tonight :-)
Calvert county schools closed again tomorrow- my oldest will be quite pleased! It's probably a good idea though considering the wind chill advisories and the fact that most of the side roads are still a mess (at least in my neighborhood they are). I shoveled my driveway all out though because I doubt OPM will have unscheduled telework again tomorrow. :-(
It's snowing lightly again. LWX extended the WSW to 4pm. That green blob on LWX radar southwest of me seems to be moving this way- I hope that's heavy snow!
My official measurement is 5" which is also what I submitted to LWX.
Just like with HECS 2016 it was very difficult to get an accurate measurement with all the drifting. Snowboard was useless. I took about 20 different measurements, with the bulk falling between 4.5" and 5.5". Highest and lowest outliers were 3.5" and 10". Most of the readings came from the back yard which is less prone to drifting (and also where the snowboard is).
Neighbor across the street has bare grass- it all blew into my front yard! I'll never get tired of winning.
I can't measure either- its blowing and drifting everywhere. My unofficial measurement is about 4-5" so far, but don't quote me on that.
Woke up to a WSW- total repeat of 1/7/17!
My name's Jason by the way, you all don't have to call me Prince lol
