  1. We're expecting another baby boy in early October, and just found out the name we had picked is actually on the hurricane names list this year. It's pretty far down the list so it's possible to be a hit here right around that time.
  2. Slightly off-topic, but NHC should just officially move the Atlantic season start from June 1 to May 15 to match the Pacific. Seems like every year has a May system now. I don't know if there's a reason for this- climate change or just some multi-decade oscillation?
  3. I think BWI got a record lowest max? 57 for the high today vs 58 record in 1915?
  4. It’s been great weather for planting a tree actually- ground is soaked and easy to dig, temperature feels a lot more comfortable than yesterday (when I actually needed a hat and gloves!). I’ll take upper 50’s and drizzle vs planting in upper 80’s and sun anytime.
  5. I've gotten 2.21" of drought rain from this system so far. Still drizzling, though it's not on radar.
  6. Same ol' pattern reemerging. 1.7" since yesterday and still raining hard.
  7. It already flipped back tonight IMBY. Even 2018 had that 2-week dry spell in early July in between the deluges. I think droughts are impossible in the Mid-Atlantic in the new normal.
  8. Heard there was a dry slot Monday as we transitioned from WAA to Coastal Cicadas.
  9. We need Brood X in southern Maryland- I'm thinking of bringing a crate of these back to become squirrel food populate my yard for 2038. I need to head out to Illinois for spring 2024- they're in the eclipse totality path, then they have brood XIII and XIX syncing up for the first time in 221 years.
  10. Went with my wife and kids to Glen Burnie to visit family- the shells are everywhere and the adults are emerging and crawling around on trees. The song is noticeable but not too loud yet. The kids loved playing with them! We are all obsessed with frozen water and magic bugs that appear every 17 years.
  11. Do the brood maps shift over time? For example, I know brood II is basically gone from Southern MD. Based on what people are saying (here and elsewhere) it seems like the numbers around the Baltimore area could be dwindling too.
  12. @Always in Zugzwang Yeah I think a certain poster may have ingested too much of this fungus back in 2004. It would explain a lot.
  13. Any reports from AA county? Thinking of driving the kids up Sunday- hopefully the music has started.
  14. So much for everyone being so worried about the kids lol We’ll be sitting the summer out anyway, oh well.
  15. I have greater odds of getting struck by lightning while holding a winning Powerball ticket in one hand and a winning Mega Millions ticket in the other, than Southern Maryland does of ever having a drought in my lifetime.
  16. I was thinking: since 2004 there has been a huge amount of development in the mid-Atlantic. I wonder if that will affect the population overall, but it's too soon to know.
  17. There’s clouds to my north and a light blob on radar, my guess is it blew from there. Was only light drizzle for about a minute. Multiple people felt it.
  18. I’m getting light rain but it’s a blue sky overhead.
  19. Happy Mother's Day to all our moms! This is also my son's birthday so we have two celebrations going on at once. I took a picture of these clouds because I've never seen this before- looks like perfect cylinders in the sky stacked next to each other with perfect straight lines in between (that's my best description). What causes this?
  20. I agree, IMBY has flipped back to more normal rain events over the last few weeks, and it appears to be staying that way. That’s great news!
  21. Keep it chilly- we have June through September to do our usual non-stop torch, so I'll take what I can get.
  22. I think that Brood II over SOMD is extinct- I don't know of anyone who saw any here in 2013. (If someone here did, let me know)
  23. This is definitely late vs. 2004. I finished finals the second week of May 2004 at UMBC and they had already been swarming around everywhere. People I know in central MD, southern PA and western OH haven't seen much of anything.
  24. This is getting like winter- always ten days away.
