Hopefully, we can pick up some rains with the hit or miss convection next few days. The drought models are expanding the drought conditions next week. So looking like our next 100°+ heat potential will be in early August.

    US Hazards Outlook
NWS Climate Prediction Center College Park MD
    300 PM EDT July 26 2022

Synopsis: Dynamical models continue to depict an expanding area of mid-level high pressure over the central CONUS during the week-2 period which shifts eastward as the week progresses, resulting in an elevated threat of excessive heat for much of the CONUS east of the Rocky Mountains, especially for the Central and Northern Plains, and the Midwest early in the forecast period and expanding into the Northeast later in the period. When coupled with a below-average precipitation forecast, drought development is possible for portions of the Middle and Upper Mississippi River Valley, as well as for portions of New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania and the lower Hudson River Valley.

    • Rapid-onset drought possible for portions of Iowa, southern Minnesota, eastern Nebraska, and eastern South Dakota, as well as eastern Pennsylvania, central and northern New Jersey, and southeastern New York.

All the models continue to show a skunk zone in the same area the next few days.

Saying this person said x on y board doesn’t help us out. We have the actual data from this heatwave. The 100s were widely recorded  from Harrison back to Somerset County.

Somerset is a not the tarmac on 95, yet we throw Brunswick out because it’s a suburb

New Brunswick several years back had issues with the site being too high (maybe 8 or 9 years ago?) that got fixed.   Mt. Holly Mets on another board say Newark is 2-3 too high most days along with Philly.  I believe they said Philly is being looked into, but they haven't had a chance for Newark yet.  I'll go with what they say.

Yup….but for some reason it’s thrown out on this forum

  7. So why would Newark's weather station trend noticeably warmer over the last 15 months? There are two possibilities. One, changes to the local landscape that warmer the microclimate around the Newark Airport station. Or two, which is more likely, the thermistor equipment has drifted a couple degrees warmer and needs to be calibrated or replaced.

Bottom line: Unfortunately, the temperature bias puts a big asterisk on our recent climate record in Newark. More specifically, our recent stretch of five consecutive 100-degree days is suspicious. While we're only talking about approximately a 2 to 3 degree drift, that would make all the difference in whether we hit 100 or not five days in a row.

    Wow!!!
So this confirms the working theory that since approximately March 2021, in more months than not, Newark temperatures have been running 2 to 3 degrees warmer than reality.

I tend to temper my expectations when we’re under a Slight Risk.

Every slight risk has been a disappointment this summer. Just hopeful for more then .05 today….set the bar low

Like I said…I haven’t been following it enough to know if it’s been trending more away from other nearby sites. But when this is your topography around the ASOS anything goes.

Yeah the dewpoints have been mid 50s to low 60s in our area during most of this 5 day extreme heat stretch. Obviously tremendous heat, but it hasn't felt that bad doing stuff outside thanks to the reasonable humidity levels.

I believe 2010 had the humidity which made it feel worst

New Brunswick (Rutgers weather station) has yet to hit 100 this week

Nyc will need something extraordinary to hit 100 and LGA has gotten a seabreeze at some point each day.

You have several posters who've hit 100 too, including Forky.

I would think Brunswick is more comparable to ewr then somerset county

Very misleading tweet since several locations from Somerset County to Newark have been hitting 100° regularly since July 20th.

New Brunswick (Rutgers weather station) has yet to hit 100 this week
