  1. Full cloud cover up here. Currently sitting at 88/66.

I was out in this stuff at a horse show yesterday and the sun came full out. I really do dislike humid sticky sweat dripping horse shows with no tree cover.

Just south of Point Of Rocks and we received well over an inch. Multiple downpours, thunder/lightning over a 2 hour period.

Yeah Point of Rocks and Adamstown got slammed. I am just up Ballenger Creek pike near the traffic circle and kept checking radar to see if it was moving up here. Lightning all to the SE for quite awhile. Took a bit of time to move but where I live finally it moved up. Ended up with just over .50”.

Hearing some thunder in the distance and getting clipped again here by some moderate downpours.  Looks like there's a potential flush hit from those cells to the south.  We'll see if they hold.

Finally it moved up from Adamstown. Pouring here with lightning.

Thanks so much for reaching out @Mrs.J

My wife and I will likely be living on the NE side of Frederick near the Wegmans. We are touring for apartments on Thursday when we stop in town for a day. Heading to see TSwift up in Pittsburgh, but flying into BWI. I'll reach out when we are getting close to settling in. Would also like to meet up one day. My wife and I love company! Very excited :)

Yes we will definitely need to meet up. If you have never been downtown Frederick is so nice and a lot of fun. Great shops and restaurants. It is actually a destination city for our neighbors to the south. Parks are great and we have managed to keep a lot of our farmland. The Frederick Festival for the Arts was just last weekend and that is an annual event down on the Carol Creek Linear Park. And there is always First Saturdays and in December Frosty Fridays. And Thursday wind downs at the Linear park also with live bands. Quite a few distilleries and craft beer establishments also.

  5. So we went down to show today at Upperville Showgrounds. They had started the day as air quality levels were still ok.

At 11 USEF put the show on an indefinite hold till 12:30 to do a reassessment. At 12:30 they have canceled the show for the rest of the day. And will most likely tomorrow as well. Good call as the air quality has progressively gotten worse here.

just saw you post in May Banter. Replied but am letting you know here as it is a new month. Sorry have had a lot going on and am loosing track of the days and time lately. But I can answer any questions about Frederick for you. Have lived here for over 20 years and am a transplant from OH. I live on the SW side south of 70 and West of 270 in the Ballanger Creek area. About 10 min from downtown.

Thanks!! Definitely excited and no official date yet, but August time frame is very likely. I cannot wait!

And we will certainly stay in touch. Now that we’ll be home for good, would love to meet many in here for cocktails and conversing. Looks like we’ll be staking our place in the Frederick area, which is where my wife and I have been eyeing for years. So excited!

Also, if anyone in here is from the Frederick area, would love to chat about areas to visit, places to partake, and any other cool tidbits about the town and surroundings. I know a decent bit, but I have been gone for so long and things are a changin!

    I know @Mrs.Jis up there! :)

Yep I have lived in Frederick for over 20 years now. Am a transplant from OH. Ask anything you like.

  8. Mid May and into the show season full swing. Have done a few the past month but this weekend kicks off the official, in my opinion at least for us, show season. Double header this weekend with a start at Morven Park. Looking like the rain will hold off as the kid is showing around 1pm. Tomorrow out to Berryville with a later start as the show has grown in popularity. Kid is on a green bean (meaning he is young, inexperienced and first year jumping at 2'6") 17hh guy. Each hand is 4" so he is about 6'1" at the withers AKA a big guy!

Will take in these cloudy somewhat cooler shows as I know what is most likely to come.

Thanks to all who wished me a Happy Mom's day. I have been in go mode and not checked in till this morning when I saw I had notifications. Hope everyone has an amazing weekend!

  9. So last year the older Ms J had prom on a day like today. And ironically the younger Miss J has prom today. If it is like last year the rain did get lighter later in the afternoon and allowed the kids to get pictures.

  10. Had an issue with my rain gauge yesterday. Had cleaned it out last week but it only recovered.06’.

But really came here to say I was trying to beat the advance of that line all day. Was at a horse show down in Warrenton. The younger Miss J finished around 11 and we loaded up and headed out. I use my friends truck and trailer and they now have the new Ford Lightning. My range was just below my trip mileage back to drop off the pony at her home barn then get back to Lovettesville. So we had planned a charge stop in Haymarket. Took about 15 min to get enough charge to keep on our way. Had a small cell pop over us while there.

Got to Aldie and checked the line. We were still a head of it but not by much. Dropped the pony off and headed back to Lovettesville. Encountered some slight spotting of rain but not the main line. Pulled into my friends farm and could see it advancing over the mountain. Told the kid the minute I get the trailer backed in to grab what was needed out of the truck and trailer and toss it in my car. I took the keys inside, almost loosing my hat, and then sprinted to the car as that line was coming across the field.

We had made it back literally seconds before the line hit. And still had to drive back home to Frederick. Drove in down pouring rain all the way. But the worst of it was on 340. Just West of Jefferson we got slammed with blowing rain. Auto wipers ramped up and we slowed down to about 40 mph. You could not see any cars in front of us. It has been ages since I have had to drive in rain on a highway like that. I am so glad that I was in my car and not hauling horses. We got out of the heavy rain just East of Jefferson. The kid looked at radar and saw what we had just gone through. Got home and pulled into the garage. After a 5 am start to the day we were both glad to be home.

Hey everyone! I have some pretty awesome news which will hopefully blossom into life changing news in the future...

I have an interview with the Weather Prediction Center in College Park to become a Forecaster on the QPF/Winter side of the house. The interview is April 25th. I am beyond excited to even have the opportunity to interview, so very grateful.

I will keep everyone in the loop, but I could use your thoughts and prayers as this would be a major career move for me, and I'd be home again :)

    Fingers crossed!

Good luck to you. Sounds like a wonderful opportunity!

  12. Had a brief shower here while I was gone, 0.13". But the sky has looked quite dramatic all day over here. The contrast of the lime green early budding on the trees and the redbuds against the monochromatic grey clouds with pops of blue is a very nice composition.

  13. 78 with 62% humidity. I don’t usually put the AC this early in the season, but with a 3 story TH and very little breeze I put it on. Only so that the 3rd level with the bedrooms will be cool enough to sleep tonight.

mail to yourself, and then it'll ask what size you'd like to send, and you can choose a smaller file for posting.

Ok tried that. Still to big. Never used to have an issue with posting photos. Will have to look into it more.

In the weather front have a change of wind direction now from out of the SW to now the NE. Down to 63 from 74.

  15. Well if I could would post the photos I just took of a devolving storm over here. I have issues with getting the image size small enough so if anyone knows how to downsize a photo taken with IPhone let me know.

It’s calm for now but the winds are coming later this evening.

    70/55 here in ashburn

Thanks that is what I have been reading. I know where my house is we can sometimes be a bit sheltered but did not realize about a later pick up.

  17. Came here to ask who has got the high winds yet as it was pretty calm here. But they have shown up a bit while typing. Just put the catio out but may have to haul it back in. Currently clear skies and 71.

Get that computer hooked up to a UPS! Even a smaller one will at least shield it better than a standard surge suppressor to the blips during high wind.

We had so many issues in the past that we actually went a step further and installed a whole house surge suppressor on our panel. Has been a good investment.
