Currently under a decent blob of precipitation. Looks like rain but not coming up on my weather station. Currently 34.

Drove home from the feed store under a small patch of sleet. Made a report on mPING as it is very sparse around here.

Just had some sleet down here. Like I have said. I am really hoping this system slides through with nothing. Not today anyways.

I have to do some serious radar watching. We need to decided the exact last minute we can do our animal sitting jobs. So far my estimated time to do the horses is no later than 2. As for the younger Ms. J who has a hour long drop in we told her that she as of now should plan on being at her job by 1 so she can leave by 2. I have seen some stuff out West of the area I am going to but it looks light. And I do not mind driving in a bit of snow. Ice is a different story. Eyes will be glued to the radar for the next few hours.

I am actually ok with this today. I am taking care of my friend’s horses in VA just across from Point Of Rocks. And the younger Ms J has two pet sitting drop ins around Frederick. I do not want any ice. I am still going to watch to see if we both need to move our afternoon/ evening care times up. The sky to the east though is a fireball. And we all know red sky at night sailors delight. Red sky in the morning sailors take warning.

Yeah going to be watching them. The water buckets have been decently low and have been filling them 2x’s a day. And one of them eats soup so nice and warm. I feel bad though with this front that just blew through. I put them out as you know moving is better than standing in a stall. I chanced it with a brief spot of rain and no sheets, only one has a sheet, but looks to have blown through quickly. Things should dry out for sure though with this wind. Putting the two mini’s in their paddock this morning and not slipping down the slight incline was dicey. That being said just had a ruckus of wind blow through here. Had a decent part of rain embedded in the line that I took a direct hit from. A spotter on mPING out in Jefferson reported pea sized hail from it.

Taking care of a friends horses over the holidays. Waited out the rain as they go out during the day. Saw that the Wind Advisory has been upgraded to a High Wind Warning. So tonight’s feed on the side of Furnace Mountain will be fun… not. On the way back home this morning though just pulled into the neighborhood and the younger Ms J and I saw this beauty!

Got woken up from that line blowing rain on the back of the house around 6:30. Got .34” and temp is currently 50.

I have not been outside to measure. But will give my best eyeball of the deck railing of 1.5 to 2”. Wind is starting to pick up. Need to make trip down to Aldi to put a new blanket I got on our pony. With the really cold today and tomorrow she needs her neck piece on.

I am just North of that yellow band that on the sweat side of 270. For it starting a bit much has filled in.

Light dusting on grassy surfaces here now. Steady snow looks to be setting in.

Coming up 270 from DC. Hit rain then a heavy band of flurries in NoMo County around the truck scales. Flurries continued until we got right to the South side of Frederick. Then absolutely nothing. Wet roads but by the time we worked our way to my neighborhood the roads are still dry and crusted over with salt. Should have known the weather hole I live in would not disappoint.

I am seeing conflicting start times. It is the oldest Ms J’s birthday today and we are headed into DC this evening for dinner. Guess we will have to watch driving home.

We just got back from Atlanta tonight. Expected it to be really cold but honestly the 40 and damp down there was worse than the 32 and dry up here.

So we have been down in GA since Thursday. Have based at my IL’s in NE GA but went to Atlanta yesterday to see other family. It is cold raw and damp down here. And after getting back to their house this afternoon my FIL said he said that they got some snow dusting in their yard overnight. Let’s just say we did not come down for the weather but misjudged just how cold it would be.

Can confirm. Kid in DC cold rain. Frederick for me currently sleet/ freezing rain. Kid up in Carlisle PA just showed a FT video of it puking down snow. She said about 3” on the ground now. She is thinking they will be on the higher end of the 3-6 prediction for her area.

So my rain gauge stoped recording rain at 5:14 am with .22" recorded up to that point I just ventured out into the slop to see if I could see why it stopped. The funnel was filled with sleet. And I am guessing the inner dip spoon is frozen. So I can say that at 5:14 am today is the point where I switched over from just rain to sleet/freezing rain. I cleaned the funnel out but that probably was not worth it as it will just fill back up.

After closer inspection of the trees we do in fact have ice up here.

I am getting reports from both kids. The one in DC is not happy with her cold rain. Meanwhile the one up in Carlisle PA just found out her campus is closed today. And here in Frederick Co I just checked and FCPS MD is closed. My weather app says light freezing rain here. But I am sure up in the mountains it is more than that. ETA with no kids in FCPS anymore just found out the reason for no 2 hr delay was today is an early dismissal day. So would not have made sense to do a delay only to send the kids back home.

Well surprise surprise. Just got a downpour all be it short. Had 1/4” hail with it. 0.16”.
