January 24-26: Miracle or Mirage JV/Banter Thread!
Mrs.J replied to SnowenOutThere's topic in Mid Atlantic
So went digging around. These photos are from the January 25th 2016 storm. First one is my oldest standing on top of the snow with a road sign. The second is our street coming in. Remember they had to have small front end loaders and dump trucks to clear a path. -

Here you go! Glute Free Lemon bars Your dinner sounds like comfort food. Will be nice and warm. Just did a grocery store run. Mind you it is my normal run for the week as we just needed food. Aldi was a zoo at 9 am. My other store of choice is our local Co-op and it was nice and quiet. Have a Giant pick up order in for an 11-12 pick up time and I still have not heard from them yet to pick up. Hoping in the next 10-15 min as I have the HVAC folks stoping in to check the Humidifier on the house with a 12-4 time slot. -

I have rated this storm a 2 baked good storm. Gluten Free shortbread lemon bars and some classic chocolate chip cookies, GF of course. Getting the ingredients this morning. Will need the power ups as we have lost our child labor for clearing snow. -

With the watches going up overnight it hit me this morning that this is the first real biting storm with both of the girls not here. One in Southern PA on campus and the other in DC off campus. My mom mind kicked in and have been talking with both of them this morning about what to have on hand. Rightfully so the DC kid brought up the possibility of loosing power. And for that matter I also told the PA kid that could be a possibility. -

So have now seen two MD Universities, Frostburg and Salisbury, both put out messages to their students. Frostburg is opening up their dorms a day early on Saturday to accommodate students getting back to campus before the snow. Also opening up the dinning hall early and not charging. Salisbury is having a week of virtual classes starting Monday so that students do not need to rush back. Both the Ms. J’s are back on their campuses already as both of them started back within the last couple of weeks. I am making a run up to PA to drop off something for the kid up there and decided to go on Friday. Told the DC kid to get to the store and get what she needs. -
Up to 32 here. Winds are picking up though. Getting some gusting up to 9mph. We do wind well.

Just came here to say this. While cold it is so nice to see the sun and blue skies. Not a single cloud out there currently.

@Scarlet PimpernelThank you for the mention. I do appreciate you touching base throughout the years. Like that you enjoy cooking as much as I do. What a nice thread. I must say I have been a bit distant over the last year. Had a bit of unexpected stuff go on that I struggled getting through. I know I am not the best at weather and most times feel like a fish out of water. But weather is one of those obsessive likes that my brain has decided to follow. Will say a shout out to @Eskimo Joe when it comes to anything horses. Thanks for understanding one of my other obsessive likes which I try to keep at bay here. And @87storms for being my fellow Frednick poster. There are not many of us over here and it is the reason I joined this forum years ago. We often get forgotten about up here unless we are jackpotting on snow.

Honestly surprised to wake this morning to another dusting here. The kid in DC is not happy. She was the one who had the Advisory and she got nothing.
-
Woke to the family text blowing up. Kid in DC asked the kid still home if we had snow flying. At that point it was hard to tell. Fast forward to now and streets are covered.
-
26 out with the sun trying to hang on. Clouds are coming in though. So what is this I hear of a possible snow storm tomorrow? Looked at the other thread and is it correct that we could get a decent amount tomorrow? Reason for asking is the kid who goes to school in PA starts her second semester on Monday. So either tomorrow or Sunday is her travel day back. We had already this morning decided on Sunday but looking at the other thread that may confirm our choice. As she is now driving herself back and forth we do not want any bad weather. And she takes 15 all the way up until she has to shoot West to Carlisle.

Thanks! I sat in my car and just looked at the clouds to the North and decided that everything would stay to the North. I guessed correctly.

Quick question. That line of precip to my N is that going to drop down here at any time. I am getting changes minute by minute and I need to know if the horses I am caring for can go out until I come back later this afternoon.

Current temp here is 44 and mostly sunny.

Yeah we do wind quite well. Sorry to hear flu has hit your house. That is never fun. I have heard it is bad this year. As for the Bronchitis I am on a multitude of meds. Got a Z Pak on board, pills to curb my coughing and an Inhaler. Back in my college days I had my first bout of it and it was bad. On the day of my graduation I had to carry a spit cup with me for when I had stuff come up. Once you have it you are more likely to get it. I know the signs so I did catch this bout early. But have not slept for 3 days as I cannot lay down without coughing. You need to catch it early so it does not go into Pneumonia. The Z Pak has already made a difference. Should be ok in a week.

And we are back to cold and wind. That warm spell while enjoying the warmer temps did not help. Just got diagnosed with Bronchitis as a secondary infection from a Sinus Infection. Happy that my doctors office has weekend walk in hours. And glad it was not the Flu.

Hit 62.4 at 3:24 this afternoon after the clouds moved off. Back down to 57 now.

58.6 under thick clouds here.

Same. Went out to bring in the trash can, they came super early. Saw it was 53 on my station and was like yeah lets see. Surprised to walk out of the garage into balmy spring like conditions. Even a hint of a bit of moisture sometime over night. Nothing on my station so must have been very light but just enough to make things damp. Kind of making it hard to eat my breakfast of oatmeal with blueberries and bananas.

Yeah apparently to get sun and some nice weather the wind is required.

The sun has just come out here. This is normal for this area. I can drive around Frederick and head over to VA and get to Leesburg and it be sunny. Or head south in to Montgomery Co. and you hit the county line and it is sunny. Sometimes you can see light all the way around but Frederick is sitting under clouds. Guessing it is because we are in a valley.
