  1. Looks like THV is sporting a 37 difference right now being at 29 with a low of -8. Good Ole THV. LOL.
  2. Just hit freezing here. Temp is flying up.
  3. If MDT has any East or Northly winds Sat AM, their record low of 0 (or -0 as the records have it) is at risk.
  4. Euro cuts out that first piece of energy so far west that our "system" is actually a new low that forms in the gulf and rides the apps. That would be JNS wet special.
  5. I was not questioning your temp, but the NWS temps I looked at are pointing toward it getting into the mid to upper 20's still. Even if not 29, 26 or better is fine for the forecast. THV is making a run for 30 after being -8 this AM.
  6. Icon, GFS and CMC all have the Final Week of January Setback on their panels still but different days. Timing and length is the key to our potential Groundhog Day winter storm. Here is GFS
  7. The MA group needs to hire a counselor. LOL. This possibility was never really a flush snowstorm thing, we are racing against retreating cold just for something to track. The GEM is much different than the GFS which results in FRZ all the way down in GA. This is due, IMO opinion, to a broad ridge/upside down banana high to our NE vs. the GFS showing a SLP pushing the ridge East.
  8. Our High Pressure is quite a bit farther SE vs the colder solutions previous.
  9. It is heating up quickly over here Some mid to upper 20's to my north. Might be some who break freezing over here. Some lower temps mixed in the valleys.
  10. 22 here. Several degrees warmer than any point since Sunday evening.
  11. MDT's 5 min readings suggest they dropped below zero at 8:10. A comment above inspired me to check where MDT stood for coldest starts to the year. 2018 was colder so second coldest since 2000 (1996 actually.) An ode to olden times that as cold as it has been, we are not even top 15 and the number below has been influenced by river ice in the opinion of some.
  12. Several guys here who use coal for varying things. I know it is messy some times but wish I had coal heat as it is rustic and you are more self sufficient IMO.
  13. I had clouds over here messing with any chance of colder last night. So did MDT. MDT is actually reporting freezing mist right now.
  14. Intersecting stat, HGR never reached 0 during the cold string. PA was on the periphery of the coldest air. Some of that was snow cover too but more the depth of the cold air which lessened greatly south of PA. BWI snuck in a 6 for their lowest temp. IAD's lowest was 3.
  15. I would prefer if that one was 100 miles south but looking at upper dynamics, that should still go East vs cut too much.
  16. The irony is thick as the main driver for this is....the cold and the pattern that brought it. Low of -2 here but up to 6 now. Appears MDT did not make negative stopping at 0.
  17. If that deep orange had extended to Florida and NC I would have assumed it meant where the most snow would fall this month.
  18. Lots of school delays again tomorrow. I heard that the electric supplier for the 13 states near us set a winter record for output this AM. https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/deep-freeze-propels-power-demand-135004710.html
  19. Thanks for your thoughts. I agree that step one is the qpf. Even if they were rainers, they would help with the worsening drought. I know one poster here who is not looking forward to summer droughts brought on by winter droughts. We have had some nice cross country bowling ball snows in the past. They will not be ice box like this time but at least something to track.
  20. Just to clarify, we could be tracking rain eventually but it is better than tracking how many snow records Florida has broken :-). I will quote Blizz, at least we are in the game/arena. LOL
  21. UK with a tip of the hat to the Icon. Quite cold this time next week. A trough carves out over us and cold air dumps in from the N and NE.
