...COASTAL FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM TO NOON EST MONDAY... * WHAT...One and a half to three feet of inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. * WHERE...Southern Queens, Southwest Suffolk and Southern Nassau Counties. * WHEN...From 4 AM to noon EST Monday. * COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Widespread moderate to locally major flooding of vulnerable areas is likely near the waterfront and shoreline, including roads, parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront. Several to numerous road closures are likely, and vehicles parked in vulnerable areas near the waterfront may become flooded. Flooding will also extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays. * SHORELINE IMPACTS...Large breaking waves of 9 to 13 ft will result in significant beach erosion and flooding. Areas of dune erosion and scattered washovers are likely, resulting in some flooding of roadways and vulnerable structures behind protective dunes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The potential for localized major coastal flooding (3 ft above ground) is mainly along the south shore of Nassau County. The potential depend on how much before high tide the easterly storm force winds subside and if southerly gale force winds develop by the time of high tide. The intensity and complexity of the situation necessitates preparation for localized major flooding in the above mentioned area.
