  1. 78/76 here, mostly cloudy with intermittent sunshine. No rain at all.
  2. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a small warning box split like that between OKX & DIX.
  3. Nothing here (at home). Under a Flash Flood Warning now, stationary storms to the northeast of me. Some PWS in that area have seen over 4 inches.
  4. Radar returns look like spit but it’s actually pouring here in Lake Grove.
  5. Was similar here, but it’s clouded up again with these storms moving in off the ocean, looks like a miss for me though.
  6. And just like that, day #40 with 75°+ dew points.
  7. I was hoping we’d get some tropical rains from this, oh well. Any chance this hurricane inflicts WAR damage?
  8. First time seeing my shadow in days. 76/72 with a UV Index of 9.
  9. I remember reading an article/study which mentioned that the theoretical max for the NYC metro is a Cat 4. That or a high end Cat 3 would be our worst case scenario. Sandy wasn’t a joke, far from it, but it was a storm surge storm more than anything else. Sandy’s winds, while severe, were manageable. Rainfall wasn’t anything special with it either.
  10. 62 and rain, my least favorite type of weather next to sub freezing temps.
  11. Yeah, it lasted no longer than a blink, I’m glad my eyes caught it. I guess it’s a good thing my PWS gave me problems, otherwise I wouldn’t have been outside.
  12. Thank you, that’s exactly what it was, the tipper was held in place by cobwebs, despite being full of water. I check periodically and I’d never seen anything other than pollen and dirt inside the gauge.
  13. It was a small pink ball, encircled by a thin bolt, that randomly appeared a few feet off the ground 100-200 feet away. No thunder, it simply appeared and disappeared.
  14. I think I can scratch ball lightning off of my weather bucket list.
  15. I know, I thought about setting up my camera, but it’s been at least 4 years since I’ve last captured lightning, I don’t even remember how to do it lol. I’m so pissed, it’s never given me an issue until today. I even poured a bottle of water in it and it registered nothing. I hope it’s just an obstruction, this thing is barely 6 months old.
  16. I agree, this is easily Florida-level. Top 5 ever for me in terms of lightning, I haven’t seen this many close by CG’s since I lived in Queens. I saw a what I believe was a power flash to my SE and half of the sky turned pink for 5 seconds. All while fiddling with my malfunctioning PWS, I ran inside after that lol.
  17. This is the best storm I’ve seen since October 2015. This storm may even be better than that one. And of course, my stupid rain gauge would fail at a time like this. Reporting 0.00” after two downpours.
  18. Getting dark here, storm right at my doorstep. Plants should get a good drink, so glad I don’t have to hand water them for once.
  19. 89/80/107 at home. 91 with a sun shower in Centereach. This is my first time seeing rain in 2 weeks.
  20. 87/79/101 Edit: Dew Point spiked to 81. So far September has matched August in terms of max dew point (81) and max temperature (94) at my station.
  21. Not really, LGA, PHL, and BWI are all quite similar. We see greater differences locally, Central Park is wetter than JFK by 7 inches. LGA - 55.7° (mean) - 44.71” (precip) - 26.6” (snow) PHL - 55.8° (mean) - 41.50” (precip) - 21.9” (snow) BWI - 55.6° (mean) - 41.85” (precip) - 20.1” (snow) DCA - 58.2° (mean) - 39.71” (precip) - 15.4” (snow) I used to live in the DMV area, it’s not all that different compared to NYC (aside from March), in recent years the difference in the amount of snowfall between the two has been pretty extreme, however. That isn’t exactly “normal” though.
  22. No A/C at any of my schools in Queens, except in the computer rooms. My high school was uncomfortably cold in the winter too, I wore my coat all day.
