Yea it's rare but it can happen. I'll never forget that Feb '10 storm (I think?) where NYC was being dumped on and Boston was raining in the 50s. That track was so insane that the rain/snow line was north/south oriented so even places north but just east of NYC saw mixing or even rain (I was living in Armonk which is northeast of NYC and I remember that for a time it was mixing while NYC was snowing).

2/25/10 was the “snowicane” widespread 30-40” up here. What many forget was that there was a 6-10” event a few days prior.

Yea although reading some of the comments here you'd think north of I84 and SNE has 100 inches of snow on the winter, they haven't had it much better than us thus far. Obviously this storm could change that if it verifies as currently depicted.

But really I think anyone not highly elevated and south of I90 thus far has had <10 inches snow this winter.

Yeap pretty close.. 13.1” so far here and I’m about 2 miles N of 84 w/850’ of elevation. 90% of that falling in December.

It was called the Snowicaine, and it wasn't 20 inches in the immediate NYC area; more like a foot. Some areas got the higher amounts but not CNJ. We had between 8-13 around Middlesex County; Woodbridge reported 8, Edison reports were of 13. It was decent but overall the whole winter was disappointing for us compared to the Mid Atlantic, but it was absolutely a great winter by this years standards....it was said that the NJ suburbs of NYC were " too far north for 2/6 and too far south for 2/26..." we made up for it the next year though. I think those big winters might just be over for us, but who knows. Certainly DC has had nothing like it since.

Snowicane brought 30-40” of snow to Orange County while areas just E of the river toward CT had mostly rain with some backside snow. One of the greatest events I’ve witnessed here in OC. That month produced 50”+ for many areas here

We will be making the move to Orange County in the next year.

Yes I know the commute to NYC is long but I am willing to do it.

Congrats.. the commute is not as bad as you think. It’s a much much better commute than those who come in from out East or jersey. I’ve been doing it for almost 20 yrs into Harlem/Heights.
