  1. I tend to agree. While it would be fascinating for nerds like us; that is a massive strain on power grids not used to that level of cold and the type of cold that kills people. Especially in Helene areas… .
  2. This is about right for us, maybe 1.5 inches prior to sleet compaction. Gonna melt quickly in sun today but roads are a sheet of white ice here right now. Great for sledding. .
  3. Nice banding coming up 85. Presenting as about 80/20 sleet/snow right now. .
  4. One more decent looking band(s) pushing out of the southern foothills north of Charlotte and headed this way. Come on, back build a little and give us one more good 45 minute shot. .
  5. I’ll be darned. Got moderate snow again. Didn’t expect that. .
  6. That band in GSO looks gnarly. Can anyone confirm ground truth? .
  7. Gibsonville kicked it up a notch or two In the throttle as well. Seeing some dendrites. Score one for Mike Maze. .
  8. I’ll say this. Fun to have a storm coming where we won’t need to burn the first 4 hours of .qpf cooling the ground down to stick. It is *silly* cold and plummeting. .
  9. Know who wasn’t? Hky Wx. I’ve learned to listen to him closely. .
  10. I just can’t square that panel and a whiff in my head. Maybe that’s just the new climo and we have to deal with that reality but jeeeez that looks perfect… .
  11. Stay the course, fellow nerds. First thing worth tracking in like three years. Let it come. .
  12. Amateur nerds like us know I-85 is always it for climo. Stands to reason the pros do as well .
  13. Think that’s why everyone’s excited. No one trusts a real modeled big dog, we’re all cynical to the core. But a 4-6 inches of concrete after the sleet and zr finishes that has I-85 as the battle line? THAT all of us central NC folks know (at least pre 2020) like a family member and can trust a bit. .
  14. On the surface I like that look at least. .
