  1. seems to me it was a very cold period immediately before snowameggdon of 2014 in birmingham bama
  2. the wishcasting about the sea ice was hilarious, so many saying lowest ice ever this year were so wrong and silent for weeks now.......
  3. ty for the answer so it is 2 ways of expressing the SAME amount of ice that shows a very different picture, of the SAME amount of ice.....
  4. how would the area and extent of a baseball diamond differ? isnt the extent of the field also its area expressed in square meters? how far something extends is part of its AREA of coverage isnt it?
  5. have one here in empire alabama.....34.3 and dew point of 25.1...most important is the rising barometer stopped at 29.90 and dropped quickly to 29.84.......
  6. incredible stuff......the storm hasnt even started yet in areas where some are calling predictions winners?
  7. i thought "imby" questions were forbidden during storms? i ask because in the models thread well over half of the posts are pure IMBY.......
  8. i agree they get much talk going and are "fun" but they are not science and they are attempting to do the impossible......even in an area predicted to get 6 to 8 inches there will be less than 6 and more than 8 in that area........
  9. posting accumulation maps at this time is simply silly, this is like trying to predict to within tenths of an inch how much rain a certain area will get in a coming summer storm 2 days in advance.....CANT be done.
  10. the real world water vapor loop shows the interaction among a few impulses off the coast of oregon/northern cal right now.......also you can see the moisture being thrown into the back edge of the cold surface air in the texas panhandle in the next couple of hours.
  11. the first mention of it i saw was on the Sunday before it hit on friday.....24 hours out the forecasts werent calling for anything special at all.
  12. this is something i dont understand.....a snow event would impact a very wide area and everybody that lives there yet they hesitate to even mention snow 3 or 4 days out, BUT a potential tornado event if it verifies only impacts a very small portion of the area and most of the people in the area have no impact, but they will harp on them a week in advance.

    Welcome!

ty for the response......i have a weather station here in an area not well covered and mostly will post observations during actual events.....having been here for over 13 years now,and having seen storms that could not possibly miss here do exactly that i do KNOW getting snow around here is very rare.....i dont attempt to make forecasts because of understanding how difficult it is and dont want to give the effort in something i consider to be an exercise in futility....but DO thank those taking that time and making their attempts .

    Welcome!

i also appreciate this forum but honestly am afraid to make any posts......because in the other forum it seems newbies really get jumped on for daring to comment and i am seeing a good bit of the same stuff here lately........NOBODY knows the future yet is seems far too many think they can predict the weather......i also note it is only a few that do it, but in the other forum it seems the MODS are among that few....hopefully this will become a decent location for folks seeking info and offering opinion.
  15. ty, i shoot straight and call a spade a spade, many cant handle that honesty.

the same people here proclaim events dead almost every single model run several days in advance.

the truth is even with the best state of the art equipment nobody can forecast snow accurately in the SE even 48 hours in advance much less 5 to 7 days.

all of the conditions have to be tim...
