@nj2va@IronTy anyone headed up to deep creek the next few days? Tonight into Saturday looks pretty primed for 6-10” with the clipper energy

I live here, so I'll post pictures if they are worth folks' time. I am a bit dubious about the forecast, however - they have really struggled this year. The day of our blizzard warning the sun was out most of the day and ended up with only a few inches. The WSW that just expired this morning produced only 2 inches once again county-wide (and that may be a bit generous). So, hopefully the forecast for 6-10 tomorrow verifies. Folks at Wisp have been really frustrated by the forecast misses.

Currently a degree colder (37.2/25.3) at 12:30 pm than at the 7 am CoCoRaHS report (38.2/29.5) with a NW wind at 11 gusting 24, feels like winter has returned.

A little difficult to see through the sun's glare at times. Not as sunny as when we were under a blizzard warning, but close. 28.2 with no accumulation since sunrise. Got a long way to go before we are even in the neighborhood of a Winter Storm Warning.

  3. 29.1 with snizzle. I'd say about an inch so far. At least the ground is white again and my husband, who is a ski lift operator at Wisp, texted me and mentioned it's a bit of a party atmosphere on the slopes today.

  4. I'm working on a system conversion tonight so it's an all nighter, but at least the rain flipped to snow about an hour ago. Deck has already caved and hope our warning level accumulation comes to fruition here in Garrett County. Currently 31.8 with gusts to 36 mph ushering in this absolutely fabulous stretch of deep winter coming up. Welcome 2025!

Blizzard warning extended until 7am here.

I can't remember the last time we had a blizzard warning, much less two of them prior to 12/5

@jonjon Do the conditions warrant? The Canaan Heights station almost always gets half again as much snow as I do (I get 4, he gets 6. I get 10, he gets 15 etc) and seeing the 10 inch report this morning shocked me. I might have had 3 max. The sun was out all day here with just pedestrian blowing snow that didn't impact visibility at all.

Might have had a flake or two.  But it was dark and scary with all the holiday lights off and I was afraid of the wind they say is coming

I understand your fear. After reading my scary forecast of "whiteout conditions" and "winter survival kits", the only thing that's currently limiting visibility is the GD sun blaring me in the face. Stay strong.

  7. Currently 16 with a beautiful sunny sunrise. As @Herb@MAWS noted, a maybe-generous 2-3" snowfall last night in Garrett County. Generally, snowfall here doesn't get the locals fired up (yours truly the exception) but the Blizzard Warning did the trick. Stores crowded, local government offices closed, that kind of thing. But, unless the upslope really gets going after this sunny start to the day, this was a giant dud (albeit better than the 55 and rain we're going to see in a few days).

Already clouded over (seems a bit early per forecast) and 20.4/13.8 outside. That may make the 40 high they called for a bit tough to reach.

Same thing here...although its a tad warmer at 25. Are you expecting much out of the system tonight?

  9. Shaping up to be a pretty good storm out in the Boonies

In the mountains, blizzard conditions are becoming likely for most
areas along and west of the Allegheny Front. Very cold air and
a deep moisture connection to the Great Lakes will set the stage
for a potent snow squall event along the Allegheny Front.
Forecast snow amounts between Wednesday night and Thursday
morning are between 4 and 6 inches with potentially higher
amounts up to around 9 inches along the western-facing slopes
above 2500 feet. In most of the Alleghenies, winds likely gust
well above 35-40 mph. With an air mass this cold, the
snow/liquid ratios are going to be very high, leading to a fine,
powdery snow. This paired with the aforementioned wind gusts
could lead to whiteout conditions at times. Treacherous travel
conditions are likely in the mountains Thursday morning. Even
after snow ends, the blowing snow will make travel difficult at
    best through Thursday night.

Yeah, would guess they open first half of the month for sure. This cold weather is perfect.

They held lift training Saturday (11/30) for employees, which is one of the last steps prior to opening. Still an internal debate on exactly which day...at least as of yesterday.

Wasn’t it you who asked us about our epic Pulaski Tug Hill trip?

One of the  guys was like 6’5” and he walked into a maximum accumulated snow area . It was a foot over his head and not a drift.  5-6’ undrifted not unusual and 3-5’ everywhere

Yes, it was me. I have done 4 LES chases since 2022 and love it when I get the location right - but as this latest round shows, its not for the faint of heart. The experience for a snow lover like me being in the middle of a band is truly second to none. I went looking around the Tug for possible cabin locations this summer (ain't much up there) to get a more permanent fix. Your chase sounds absolutely epic. If another LES chase comes up in the future, I'd be there in a New York minute lol.

Do I blame myself for Watertown’s snow bust because I mused about wishing I was there?

yes, yes I do. It’s my superpower and it is just the worst.

That band just south of Watertown is epic - but its been frozen in place. Had it not been for the holiday, I'd be sitting in a Watertown Airbnb stewing until steam lifted the cranium off my bald head. The band will move north at some point, but not 70" worth.

Very light snow here with about an inch in the last 24 hours. Was very festive decorating the tree yesterday. Cold at 16.5.

it might be the biggest Lake Effect for Tug Hill since we went

Where did you stay? I'm likely heading up Saturday morning but unsure if I'll be able to make it. Might do an Erie chase but Tug looks way better.
