  1. Wife and daughter wanted to go for a walk despite dreary cold and asked is i going to rain and I say nah.  Then this tiny little strip of rain forms over us right when they're out.  Oops!  :raining:

Ha! Tell that to the female hummer who flies out of the tree, b-lines straight to me and starts drinking the nectar out of the feeder before I've even had a chance to switch it out.

Love when they do that, or when I go out on the deck and they fly right to 1-2 feet from my face and eyeball me like they're saying "what are you doing on our deck?"  Funny little buggers

Can't believe we are looking at muggy and 80s with thunderstorms in a couple days

48F. My flowering tropical plants are not happy at all. The hummingbirds aren't  either. I moved the hummingbird feeders out of the rain and wind, and surprisingly they found the new location of pretty quickly. And I'm switching the feeder every 3 hours, (one inside to warm it up).

No need to warm it up -- ruby throats love the cold nectar!  My tropicals are also not liking this crap weather.

Looks like another day locked in the low 50s. Looking forward to finally seeing sun tomorrow.

  4. The record low max for today at DCA is 58 and thought broken record for sure....until I noticed it was 59 just after midnight oh well.

Look at these record low maxes all from 1907, yuuuuuk:

    June 1:  54

    June 2:  53

    June 11:  57

    June 12:  62

    June13:  59

Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA - Minibar Delivery

Oh man had one of those yesterday at the Dogfishead Alehouse in Gaithersburg, with a juicy bacon cheddar burger.  Mmmmmm!

Got right about 1.0 yesterday and last night which was way more than the 0.6 I expected.  Just drizzle today and an incredibly cold 50 degrees.

Some of the temp forecasts are quite insane for highs on Saturday and Sunday! The pool may be where you could go to warm up!

40s showed up on the NAM (I know it is overdone) but WTH!

Ahhhh good ol' Mid Atlantic.  Days of 80s and 90s, then FIFTIES and rain over Memorial Day Weekend, then back to sunny and 80s.  We need the rain but the timing couldn't be worse for people.

Nice morning out with partly sunny and 65

  7. Really need the rain after getting mostly missed yesterday with just 0.1.  Point/click for Friday and Friday night has total of 1.25 to 1.75, so using the Central MD rainfall formula (50% of the low end amount) yields about 0.6 which would be decent.  (That formula works for snow too).  I don't like seeing the thunderstorm language creeping in though -- we need stratiform rain to do well here.  T-storms will just dodge.

  8. I have three 40-50  foot maples in my back yard and my next-door neighbor has a 50-foot pin oak.  I have no cicadas while they have shells all over the trunk of that tree, their deck, fence, etc.  I also sat out yesterday and saw cicadas flying towards their tree one after another, like it was an airport.

  9. Had a decent shower a bit ago but hoping for more to get this pollen washed out.

We won't get out of the 60s today but DCA was 80 just after midnight so that goes in the books as the very misleading "high" for the date.  DCA got to 94 yesterday :o

I feel for people that planned beach or pool parties this coming weekend with showers and highs upper 60s/low 70s, but that's what you get living in this area.

  10. Wait a stinkin' minute -- this article on heat concerns for the summer olympics says that Tokyo's average temperatures in late July and early August are the highest for any host city going back to 1984.  Are they saying Tokyo's summer temps are higher than Atlanta's (1996)?

    Hot Olympics

  11. Yeah it's pretty nice out there with the low humidity.  I was looking at the NWS obs map and saw New River Bridge at 1 degree   I clicked on it and found temps at -21 last night ha

Yep. Hearing sustained chorusing from the Brood X periodicals this morning. Much preferred to the mid-late summer screeching buzzsaw of annual cicadas!

Gawd I hate those annual cicadas!  I've had just two or three of them chase me in from enjoying time on our deck before.  They were really persistent last summer.
