  1. I tried kicking a football on the sleet on that Saturday night in 1965 and my elbows still hurt from falling on them...January 1965 had four straight weekends with snow or sleet...it was a very good month...the fifth weekend had snow in the forecast but the storm sailed south of us...

  3. it was Feb 1920 that had the three day storm that was 1/3 snow...1/3 sleet...1/3 freezing rain...March 1993 had 3" of sleet after the 9" of snow imby...it ended with an inch of rain and a dusting of snow...The March 1914 had a lot of sleet...Feb. 1921 had a lot of sleet...Feb 1940 also...Feb 1961 had hours of sleet mid storm...the earliest sleet storm I remember came on my 10th birthday 3/28/1959...

  8. on this date in 1958 NYC got 8-10" of wind swept snow around the area...temperature dropped to 3 degrees a day later...I was in the third grade at the time and remember what I was doing before and after the storm...

  10. its funny that 1966 had similar storms in January and then December...both were KU storms and both times the low was very close to us and we got dry slotted...the December storm did have hours of sleet which was a downer...it did changed back to snow once the low got north of us...

  16. 1971 was ushered in with a snowstorm that measured 6.4" in Central Park and 7.2" in Bensonhurst Brooklyn....8" in parts of Long Island...9.9" in Dobbs Ferry....snow started falling about 1am and ended in the afternoon...1978 had a 2" snowfall on this date...first inch or more of that season...1976 saw rain that started on 12/31 change to 1" of snow before ending after ball drop in the early am hours...1967 had snow falling for the ball drop at midnight with 3" on the ground...that ended soon after...
  17. the temperature was just below freezing for most of the storm in NYC and it still changed to a mix that evening ...JFK being right on the water with December Ocean Temperatures could have kept accumulations down there...

  21. on this date in 1963 the heavy snow that was falling all afternoon changed to light sleet and freezing drizzle in the late evening...6-7" of snow fell and it was coated with crusty ice...the mix changed back to light snow before ending in the early am hours on the 24th...it stayed cloudy all day with temperatures peaking in the mid 30's after mid 20's in the morning...Christmas eve evening had a period of snow that coated the dirty snow in the streets...6" of snow was on the ground Christmas morning in most areas...the two day totals were... 6.6" in Central Park... 7.4" at Newark airport... 7.2" at LaGuardia airport... 3.7" at JFK... 7.4" at Dobbs Ferry... 7.8" in Elizabeth NJ... 6.2" in Paterson NJ... 6.7" on Staten Island... 6.2" in Brooklyn... 6.5" in Mineola..
