  2. This is the N and W winter of old.....we have a solid shot at eclipsing 40" of snow this season after Thursday....and an increasing shot of a top 10 all-time February snow month....who would have thunk it??
  3. Freezing drizzle continues with the temp down to 31.6 on VP and 30.6 on Tempest - solid icing on deck and trees
  4. Light Freezing rain in NW Chesco with the temp down to 32.2 on the VP and 30.9 on the Tempest
  5. Plus Western Chester County also with the somewhat higher elevations
  6. Some light rain now with temps ranging from 33.3 on my VP to 31.8 on my Tempest - could my VP be running too warm?? How many less 90's could I have had in the summer?? LOL!
  7. Latest WXSIM with 12z NAM / 6z GFS Tonight: Dense overcast. Wind east around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation 80 percent. Precipitation (liquid equivalent) mostly around an inch. No snow or ice (on ground) accumulation expected. 8. Good news for those looking forward to the warming days....yesterday marked the last day with an average high in the 30's we won't return to the 30's for normal highs until December 19th
  9. That season "only" had 47 snow cover days - although as others noted we did have 31 consecutive days of snow cover from Feb 5th to March 7th so not too shabby. I have to finish the analysis of most consecutive days with snow cover but they may be up there
  10. You have quite a bit more there then I do only 9" here in the southern climes!
  11. Hey Kevin actually it works both ways during events like this....lower spots in Chester County like Exton will not have icing (hence why the NWS does not include them in the warning)...but as you drive up Route 100 and pass 500 ft at the PA Turnpike you will start to notice ice accretion starting in the trees - have seen this many times....
  12. Ice storm warning includes Western Chester County...it will be tough with snow pack to warm us in spots over 600 ft across much of the county....let's hope I am wrong!
  13. Hi RedSky yes that is total days with snowcover - I am analyzing longest stretches of consecutive for my next historical post -thanks!
  14. The weather service says to never measure the snow or lack thereof on a hill - especially south facing hills - if you have both covered and non-covered spots you take an average of the covered vs non-covered
  15. Today will mark our 25th day with snow cover >1" here in NW Chester County PA. In a normal winter season we average 31 days of snow cover (1894 to Present). For many the best measure of a good winter (for a winter enthusiast) is the number of days with snow cover - so you may be asking what are our top 10 greatest snow cover winter seasons? Well wait no more the answer is below 1904-5 (74 days) 2013-14 (72 days) 1995-96 (69 days) 1960-61 (67 days) 1963-64 (64 days) 1947-48 (64 days) 1919-20 (63 days) 2014-15 (62 days) 1909-10 (59 days) 1986-87 (57 days)
  16. Heaviest relative precip of the day here in NW Chesco...transitioned from some spotty ZR to now all IP with the heavier precip - temp has continued to slide now down to our low for the day of 25.3 DP 15.9
  17. Temp continues to fall here in NW Chesco but with only some light ZR and a few ice pellets from time to time - temp down to 26.1 down from high of 28.3 at 11:40am
  18. Just started to lightly sleet here in NW Chesco temp at 27.6 DP 10.0 - of interest temp has dropped 5 degrees in Sea Isle City NJ and even ZR now at the beach
  19. This low level cold is not going anywhere if you are N and W of the fall line especially with a solid snow cover in place - models will overdue LL warmth in these situations....
  20. I too grew up and was living in the Great NE Philly on Waldemire Drive near Red Lion Road. I just remember they kept upping snow amounts - my main source back in the day was Eliott Abrams and Accu-Weather on KYW radio. Plus like you Jim O'Brien was the guy that got me into the weather....."it's gonna rain like a hose on a flat rock" That was back in the day before weather was a major part of TV news....and the on air weather folks were almost never professional METS just personalities like Jimbo! Back then sports used to be a bigger part of news than weather. I really think ever since the Blizzard of 1996 when all of the stations covered it all day and got huge ratings they figured out how good weather can be for increased eyeballs!
