Ha that's a cold airmass too in the lower levels that advects in.

Kind of a weird evolution on the GFS, but some ensembles show this. Like a prolonged wind event with some pellets and drops on the coast.

I don’t think they happen as often as you think they do. It’s more like you get a 2-4” event and valley or coast gets little.

I do think Jan and Feb will have some fun for us. I'm just bummed yet another December blows. Maybe the week after Christmas will help lift spirits. I'm still hopeful for something.

Antecedent airmass is junk so it would also have to cold advect too as it intenisifies. Not a lot of wiggle room.
