(David Ludlum) 1970 - Hurricane Celia struck the coast of Texas producing wind gusts to 161 mph at Corpus Christi, and estimated wind gusts of 180 mph at Arkansas Pass. The hurricane was the most destructive of record along the Texas coast causing 454 million dollars damage, and also claimed eleven lives. (David Ludlum) (The Weather Channel) 1987 - A severe thunderstorm moved across Cheyenne, WY, during the mid afternoon. The thunderstorm produced hailstones up to two inches in diameter causing more than 37 million dollars damage. The eastern U.S. sweltered in the heat. A dozen cities reported record high temperatures for the date, including Paducah KY with a reading of 102 degrees. Beckley WV established an all- time record with an afternoon high of 93 degrees. Thunderstorms around Fort Collins, CO, produced wind gusts to 74 mph along with marble size hail. Sixteen persons were injured in the storm, most of whom were accidently locked out of their office building, having evacuated it when the fire alarm went off, apparently triggered by lightning. Thunderstorms developing in Minnesota produced wind gusts to 85 mph at Baudette during the afternoon, and softball size hail at Lake Kabetogama, during the evening. Tue (8/6) - Sat (8/10) storm chances and onshore flow influences from the remnants of what should be Debby Fri/Sat could produce some heavy rains the typical dry to deluge scenario. Heat looks toreturn around mid month as ridge west expands east north and west initially. 8/3 - 8/5: Hot/ humid -storm chances 8/6 - 8/10 : Humid - wet to very wet - near normal - no 90s likely 8/11 - 8/14 : near normal overall warming by mid month with next heat signal

Bismarck, ND, reported a record warm morning low of 75 degrees, and record hot afternoon high of 101 degrees, and evening thunderstorms in North Dakota produced wind gusts to 78 mph at Lakota.   15. 86 / 76 sunny with storms to the northwest and large area in CPA. Timing is 11 - 2 into our area. Upper 80s / low 90s - clouds and storms will limit the stronger heat. Continued hot / humid with storms as the trough slowly approaches and Debby forms near Florida. Upper 80s / low 90s Sat and Sun, then stronger heat Mon with some clearing and 850 MB temps >18c. Tue - Fri humid and could be very wet as remnants of what could be Debby and boundary nearby. Beyond there warmer by mod month with Euro a much hotter look.
