  1. Mosquitoes have been no big deal here. Deer flies almost gone. Horse flies at the pool suck but they haven’t been bad. Grasshoppers have been insane here Also, our chipmunk population collapsed. It was huge in the spring and early summer. Almost gone now
  2. “How much does a Public School Teacher make in Massachusetts? The average Public School Teacher salary in Massachusetts is $63,403 as of July 27, 2020, but the range typically falls between $55,351 and $73,196. Salary ranges can vary widely “ Wow. Mass was very close. Most contracts are 185-190 days. I think mine is 187. So yeah...around $35 per hour. That’s for Master’s level degree.
  3. No where near that in my hood, but our cost of living isn’t as high I’m guessing. I’m 20+ years in and make under $80k. I have never had an issue with my pay. It is fine. Benefits are good but we self fund our pension >95%. I do wish the city could pay for materials, texts, technology etc. hire more paras and tutors. More guidance counselors and other support staff are sorely needed. So many kids come from really tough households.
  4. Summer of yore. Hasn’t been super hot here, but has stayed warm overnight ORH is +5.3F for the month. One +10 departure
  5. Lots of subs won’t be doing it. Already a short supply
  6. She is definitely overplaying. Ask for 5 major things. Get 2. Something like that. Our local union was fairly evenly split and the SC went their own way. Some changes were made last night to help out some groups like special ed , vocational students etc. Anyhoo, R naught for MA has been back below 1 (0.97) for a little while. That’s good
  7. Definitely some good lightning going on here
  8. Some cute little cells near me. But they look like they will miss
  9. I think where you and I live, yes. Other parts of the state naso much.
  10. In the district we live in there was a proposal to use one of the schools (currently not being used) as a place parents could bring their kids to be supervised, and greatly spaced apart. Not sure how many parents are looking to take part or how it works.
  11. At least a couple of my coworkers have left teaching (at least for now) rather than do remote teaching. I am not sure I understand the philosophy of cutting my salary since I will still be teaching 100+ students (maybe 150 this year if we don’t hire back some of those cut). Remote teaching in the spring was much more difficult than in person and def not as good (although lawmakers, parents and admin are at least as much to blame as teachers. If a kid isn’t taking part in the lessons and the parents don’t make them take part how is that the teachers fault?). Many people are still working remotely. I get that many jobs can’t be done that way. I also don’t think many jobs put you in as close contact with as many potential vectors as being in a classroom. so tired of being society’s punching bag. I just want to teach science. I want to be with my students in person. This is not the fault of the teachers.
  12. Yup. We have stayed there a couple of times. Their pricing structure can be funky. Sometimes the deals aren’t described correctly. But we have been happy with our stays there.
  13. Salt, wind and dry? Not great for trees
  14. Yeah. I don’t understand using the neck gaiters. I find them uncomfortable but maybe people find them easier to breathe through? Looks like we will have 4 different approaches to school in my home: son doing college remotely. Daughter doing a hybrid 2 days in, 3 days remote, me doing full remote from my classroom (at least that should be better), wife going back full in person. wheeeeee
  15. 78/67 here attm. Dog days being dog days. Gonna sneak over the border for a few hours today
  16. I was sitting outside with some friends yesterday evening around 5PM. Sun still felt pretty strong
