  1. From some numbers I have seen, (not sure how accurate they are), in Massachusetts at least, gyms have not contributed very many cases. Between 7/6 and 11/14, a consortium of Massachusetts Independent Fitness Operators had reported 1,384,349 gym "check ins" and only 45 reported cases 0.00325% That's below community rates by a ton
  2. CDC shuffling the deck chairs wrt schools https://www.masslive.com/coronavirus/2020/11/cdc-removes-guidance-pushing-for-school-reopenings-amid-covid-pandemic-saying-new-scientific-information-has-emerged.html https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/schools.html
  3. They are making snow at Wachusett right now (10:30AM) Kinda surprised in a way. Today is cold, but a warmup is coming
  4. MCO is awful to get out of... at least it was in 2019. A lot of people get that pre-screen thing. I forget what it is called
  5. On the Mayo website, they mention that Covid may cause GBS...yikes...
  6. Yeah... I mis-typed the date. I haven't heard much about it since it was first announced over the summer. We had ours done in mid October based on our PCP recommendation... he suggested we get it mid to late October.
  7. In Mass, flu vaccination now required for school by Dec 3. That's a new one... Edit: Dec 31... fat fingers
  8. I saw a picture of the Magical Express line the other day. Super long... but prob due to social distancing. Not sure if you use that service
  9. Give me JetBlue any day over SW I used to love them... The whole seating groups etc bugs the crap out of me.
  10. A tricky problem for many Americans. Don't get the vaccine but be willing to continue with masks, etc.? Get the vaccine and have a document saying you are good and can attend concerts, not wear masks, etc? How would that work? I am guessing my job will require vaccination... we had to for the H1N1 (I think??)
  11. Might be a good time to invest in companies that manufacture deep freezers and dry ice equipment... at least in the short term
  12. Yeah. Looks like 95% efficacy and no short term negative effects. I wonder how long immunity will last. I’m guessing a yearly booster
  13. FDA letter of authorization https://www.fda.gov/media/143810/download
  14. A bit more detail https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/coronavirus-covid-19-update-fda-authorizes-first-covid-19-test-self-testing-home
  15. Ginxy’s mention of immunity news for me searching. This is promising. But one study https://www.healthline.com/health-news/how-long-does-immunity-last-after-covid-19-what-we-know#What-we-currently-know-about-COVID-19-immunity
  16. Anecdotally, people I know who have been tested are generally being told to expect a 3-7 day turnaround time but are getting the results in 1-3 days. Sometime like Ginx said under a day. I think it depends on where you are getting it done as well
  17. Could I ask why you don’t get the flu vaccine? I know a bunch of people who do not. I know it isn’t largely effective, but my understanding is that it is incredibly safe.
  18. Ah. I stand corrected. I’m just going off my memory of what a health care worker was telling me yesterday. I could easily be getting my facts wrong
  19. I’ve heard that the manufacturers have had trouble producing enough of some of the reagents (or something?) to keep up with demand for this. Hospitals in this area have been running short/borrowing from each other. A fixable problem but current
  20. So far no evidence of spread in the parks/resorts. They are doing something right there. Cleaning like heck. Masking. Keeping people distant They did test out some fireworks at MK last night.
  21. Our daughter is a theater bug. Nothing since March. The remote learning is awful for some kids. Just awful. I was in a meeting about one of my students yesterday. He has been able to come into the building since we have been hybrid and does great. When he is at home it is a complete shitshow. The chaos and generally awful lives some kids have at home is insane. For some kids remote is perfect. But that is rare. The vast majority of kids in the middle are getting by ok but it is far from ideal.
  22. Yeah. It’s weird. My son’s university has been testing everyone twice a week and have had very few positives since August. Yet a church service in Fitchburg has resulted in over 150 cases with a couple of dozen currently (as of yesterday) hospitalized.
  23. Covid worldwide has killed 1.4 million so far as per Worldometers.
