  1. 27.4F Light snow, light winds. Vis 1.25 miles. Poor snow growth 1.5" new (Been snowing for 4 hours now)
  2. 27.5F light snow Vis 1 mile. Wind north 4 gusts to 14mph. Poor snow growth. 1/2" over the past 2 hours.
  3. 29f very light snow. Heavy dusting. Expected 2/3 inches by now according to models. Get this stuff north please.
  4. What a great storm for everyone in the whole New England forum. 12" for everyone till you get into the NYC metro. Even the islands score. Doesn't happen often for sure, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!
  5. Thanks guys! Great stuff today. Good friends of ours in a group of 10 people are all heading to Guatemala via MIA at 730am out of Logan on Wed AM. They are all texting me asking if they will get out. Hum. The storm will be basically over, diminishing winds with ongoing cleanup. I would guess the equipment would have to already be on the ground from the evening before for a departure that early. I gave them a 75% chance of this working out...
  6. Yep Scott, lock me in for my 6-12". I do have a question for you. During that last storm the pivot/deformation band sat over the W Mass/S VT to give them the high totals. Given the slp track now SE of the benchmark where would that probably set up? Seems like there is many times a secondary max way west? Edit. Since I wrote this and reviewing the new posts my question has been answered, further east than me!
  7. Okay, not to be a Debbie here but I'm not seeing what everyone is so excited about with today's trends. Just looked at the Euro and GFS. Euro run shifted east from 0Z. 18Z GFS shifted precip east from 12Z. Sure its a huge storm, 960 something but the trend which was great all weekend has come to a halt. Yeah the 18Z NAM was epic but like people always say, its the NAM. I would rather go with the big boys. Too bad the 12Z come in so late now...
  8. Thank you Tip for explaining why the models seem to bring so much qpf westward up here in the mountains. Good stuff.. Question. If the blend of model runs held serve would this track and slp intensity warrant blizzard conditions along the coast? Low goes pretty far east so I don't know if the coast gets 40mph plus winds for 3 hours. We have close friends flying with their kids to a long-planned trip to Guatemala out of Logan on Wednesday morning. They are asking me if they will get out. The storm should be in cleanup phase by then, hopefully...
  9. So dumbing down your saying that the even though the 0Z GFS looks much better than the previous runs it really is by chance and not a good phase and the trend is worse if you are looking for a good storm. Saying that the SE zones just has a chance of a warning level system sure doesn't leave me with a warm and fuzzy feeling as I go to bed!
  10. I remember that period well. January 21rst storm was the biggest snowfall in Boston history then the Blizzard of 78 two weeks later. I was a college student at the University of MD and salivated listening to scratchy distant WBZ broadcast what was going on up here.
  11. Fantastic model trends today. What a great part of the country we live in if you are a weather enthusiast. This trifecta of 3 powerful storms back to back to back. Wow. Relish these times when we are in a weather lull. On to the GFS...
  12. I had pretty much discounted this storm up here. 12Z runs very encouraging. Arrghh on the time change. We need to change this like the way it was a few years ago when I think it happened later in March...
  13. Lots of people saw it all over New England. My neighbor swears it landed just behind his house! He said it went down just behind his trees. Highly doubtful. I told him he should take the day off and go into his woods and find it. A 1 pound meteorite is worth about a million bucks!
  14. Looking at that shot I am trying to figure out the city light sources. To the extreme right must be Berlin. Maybe Littleton on the left? Then on the far horizon that must be Montreal. Years ago I did a winter overnight edu trip at the summit. A noreaster was developing down in the mid-Atlantic and the cirrus shield had made it over SNE. Boston's lights were quite visible reflecting up to the underside of the clouds. Actually, this would be a neat question to the observers. If a cirrus shield was over NYC would they be able to see the cirrus lit that far away. I think it would be possible. For some reason the "how far can you see" question has always interested me. Edit. Maybe the horizon lights are Burlington?
  15. KP index a 5 so I went to the top of the hill for a look. Definite brightening on the north horizon but with the naked eye I could not make out any detail. Need to be able to see to fairly low to the north to notice. Moon rises around 9pm which will probably kill anything after that....
  16. I went up to the top of my hill last night and couldn't see anything. My friend Dave setup at the foot of Newfound Lake and with a time exposure caught them very faintly. Like the ones I briefly saw last week they are usually far on the north horizon. The key lately is you really need to have an unobstructed north view without any city lights in that direction... Here's the pic he posted on his site...
  17. The Gulf Stream comes up from the Florida area. NC sticks out to the east. So basically the warm waters of the Gulf Stream move NE well out east of the east coast north of NC. So take a look at the water temperatures and you will see a quick large drop off of water temperatures.
  18. These are the 12Z runs. The 18Z have more models bending west.
  19. Until helicopters can survey damage it is impossible to know exactly how bad this storm was. my guess is that it is going to be catastrophic. The media has been camped out at the best hotels in San Juan. When I visited Puerto Rico and toured the countryside there were so many poor towns with crappy construction. These vast areas are where the real damage will be. Power is out so information will be very spotty for a couple of days. Also the power grid is so exposed. Unlike the US mainland with Irma you can't just bring in crews from other areas. Power will be out for many weeks, months.. Also lets not forget Dominica. I haven't even looked today to see what exactly happened there.
