I actually don't mind sleet. It has much longer staying power on the ground than snow does. Of course, since it goes to 50 degrees the next day, that might be moot.
Guys, if we get a 3-5" snowfall + ice accretion on top this Wednesday, all y'all will be posting obs and analysis like cray, and the fun will return! Hopefully we'll see everyone on Wednesday!
Thanks for the primer! I should rephrase: the MJO has been talked about by experienced mets, but this season it's being discussed by nearly everyone. The volume of MJO posts appears to be 10x higher this season compared to past seasons. Which is a good thing - we should be talking more about the drivers of teleconnections (such as MJO) rather than just the "effects" of these drivers (i.e. the teleconnection indices themselves)
It's been a Mid-Atlantic winter. But you wouldn't know it from the sentiment on the boards this season. I remember how we went nearly three years without a snowfall that exceeded 2". But the mood on the boards back then was never this bad!
Pretty much every winter weather event we've had thus far has over-performed. Granted this winter has been frustrating for various reasons but it's nowhere near as bad as other recent winters around here have been. 0.5" in Vienna.
