I'll stick to whiskey. I ate someone's edible chocolate brownie and my brain started vibrating and left my body for about an hour. lol
-
Hot chocolate infused with peanut butter flavored whiskey tastes better on days like that.

It's great to be alive!

I have a gut feeling we'll over-perform. Sucks that we miss out on coast-to-coast winter advisories.
-
TBH though, we do evolve. There were a lot of things done decades ago that were acceptable that we look back on and can see why we don't do those things anymore. I'm sure there were a lot more accidents and deaths back then too which probably drives our actions today. I'm sure there is data somewhere that has suggested we change how we handle weather. I'm sure insurance companies would love to sit down and chat about risk. lol

Thank our country's litigious society. If parents are forced to come in to register and one family gets into a bad accident on a patch of ice, well..... Even if there is no lawsuit, that's just bad for the program. Also, school systems would rather err on the side of caution than to get calls about some injury from some kid slipping on ice or children stranded somewhere on that one road that hasn't been cleared 100%.

At this point in our recent climo, anything over 12" would be historical. On this board, I think anything over 18" would be Biblical. Major would be 6-12. I got close to 10" and my school system has been out for 4 days. I'd call that major. You would also have to factor in the cold I guess. How long does the snow hang around to impact an area.

I love any snowfall that turns the grey road slush white.

January Medium/Long Range: A snowy January ahead?

If WV was a lake, would we get lake effect snows during these cold shots? Asking for a friend. -

I know. I fell for the 38" snow map for DC. We need to be treated for lack-of-snow anxiety. -

I was about to ask the same. I had to look to confirm it said 2m. That cold will make you cough when you inhale. I experienced negative temps ONCE in my life. While visiting Anderson, IN. My car therm read -2. It was a BMW. Didn't know they went below zero. lol -
Are these models having a bad day? What's with the weird jagged edges in Georgia and the Carolinas?
-
It is interesting that from the last storm, models were wavering like windshield wipers. With this storm, the are more certain. Is this an easy or normal pattern?

Wow. I left yesterday evening after reading panels of 38" for DC and a beautiful bowling ball vort. This morning, we're lucky to get 5". I love this hobby! -
If I recall correctly, isn't there a category system for winter storms? Or just names?
-
Yeah. Wisp was nice. I may return this winter with the kiddos.
-
I look at it this way. Think of Star Wars when the targeting systems in the X-Wing fighter try to lock on to a target. It swings back and forth until it locks on. Both fighters are moving. Same with the models. A lot of things moving and the models are trying to lock onto a solution.

Just left Wisp with steady light snow and 21 degrees. Here in Cumberland on the way back to DC. 30 and flurries. Carrying some snow back on the van. May not last though

I am at the Wisp resort. I just decided on a whim to take a look as I have never been to Wisp. Had no idea there would be a lot of snow. The guy at the dest said 8 inches. I hope they clear roads good up here. I have an eye appointment in College Park tomorrow afternoon. -
Hard to see the individual flakes. But it was snowing moderately to hard at the tubing hill. The road pic was on my way in and it had just started snowing.
-
Here in McHenry, Md scoping out the Wisp Ski resort to see if I want to take the kids. Got here about an hour ago. Winter Storm Warning pinged on my GPS for the area. Got here before the heavy snow. Right now heavy snow and 28 degrees. Not bad for 2.5 hours from DC.

It would be so cool to get highs into the single digits! Pun intended! -
