  1. The ice caves at Williams Lake are pretty awesome too. Ride the rail trail north out of Rosendale a few miles and the caves are right next to the trail, it's like air conditioning in a few spots. It's boomin' pretty good here now with a steady moderate rain coming down. Good timing too, I cut my backyard grass fairly short this morning. It's only the second time I've cut it so far this year so it was pretty high and it's thicker than it's been in 15 years. It actually looks like I have a lawn even though it's not really grass but as long as it's green it's good right?
  2. It's raining pretty hard here right now. It looks like the bulk of the storm is just off to my south though. Are you getting any of this?
  3. And just 30-40 minutes north of you it's between 3-4" so far this month. C'mon up and enjoy the lushness
  4. ^^ sb what are you talking about, clouds, rain and miserable? Do you see that visible sat shot SACRUS posted above? It's mostly clear around the area, it's warm, humid and summery. Don't pay so much attention to commercial forecasters, learn a bit about the weather by reading and listening here, learn how to utilize the tools available to you to come up with your own determinations of what's to come. The next few weeks will most likely end up at or above normal temperature wise, sure there may be a bit more moisture than you'd like but we just went through a very dry period so we're "due" for some rain.
  5. Well we sure got the convection last night and the humidity today. Good call Forky.
  6. Me too, significant rain overnight with some crazy heavy downpours and long, rolling, booming thunder with frequent lightning. I'm kind of surprised that local weather stations didn't record more rainfall than they did though. Closest mesonet is 1.01 and a WU station has 1.5.
  7. Wow did it rain hard a few times overnight. I think the long, rolling, booming thunder was the most impressive part of the storms and the frequent lightning was a close second. Closest local mesonet station has 1.01 but a closer WU station has 1.5".
  8. Heavy rain, lightning, thunder and overflowing gutters. Just like a good summer thunderstorm is supposed to be.
  9. And... there it is. Lightning, thunder and heavy rain. Woot woot, dusty hardpan trails ought to be gone for at least a few days and the freshly cut lawn won't brown out.
  10. I think I'll go mow this afternoon since it looks like it's going to rain tonight/tomorrow and again during the week. I've been putting it off so it doesn't burn out but it's time...
  11. RH down to ~35% here now with dewpoints at 49-50*. Nice and dry, feels good
  12. I heard that there may be some significant rip currents along the east end beaches as that storm passes by. I'm planning on being on the beach tomorrow afternoon, is it everywhere or only in spots?
  13. And again, 30-40 miles makes a world of difference. I think it's a bit over an inch here this month. Yeah it's incredibly green so far this year.
  14. I saw 91 on the dashboard in a few spots this afternoon, downtown Manhattan wasn't stifling but was bordering on unpleasant. Still green up here and has a few days to go before I'd consider it dried out. Hopefully those storms tomorrow evening/night happen and it stays green for a while longer.
  15. Looks like I got at least .5". Stations around me range from .22<>.6. I figure with as hard as it rained and the gutters overflowing like waterfalls I had to be toward the high end of the range.
  16. Kinda looks like we may be done with the wetness for today. The sky is getting brighter and the ceiling is lifting. I won't miss the heat, actually it's the oppressive nature of the airmass that I really won't miss. I hate when I just don't feel like being outside because the air is just thick and heavy, high temps in and of themselves don't really bother me.
  17. Showery since my last post. Looks like the main mass ought to move through soon. Looking forward to drier and more pleasant air this afternoon!
  18. Had a few minutes of light rain a little while ago and it stopped for about 20 minutes. Now it's long slow rumbles of thunder and super heavy rain. Heavy enough that all of the gutters are overflowing and I can only see 3 or 4 houses down the street.
  19. Well, hopefully this first line of light rain takes the heat out and the main line won't be significant t-storms just plain rain. I just had about 15 minutes of drizzle/light rain. Seems like it's moving through pretty quickly so it looks like it might all be done by noon or so, that would be nice. Yo snywx where are you? Hope all is well.
  20. Boy it's gross out there this afternoon. Topped 90 again and the evaporation from the heavy rains yesterday has it disgustingly hazy and the air is just heavy and dense. It's ugly Sweating while standing still in the shade kind of ugly.
  21. I absolutely love that area but every time I mention it someone says something to the effect of 'I hope you can handle the meth heads' or something similar.
  22. So looks like the storms are going to stay off to the southwest just enough to keep it dry around the area. I'm up in NW CT and it's sunny and nice, humid and hazy but mostly sunny with a nice breeze.
  23. Warmer in some spots today than yesterday. I saw 98 on the car thermo in Poughkeepsie a little while ago. It stayed there for a few minutes and as I passed a bank showing 99 I figured it was pretty close to right. Down to about 90 here at home and doesn't seem as humid as yesterday but the air feels so stale now. Lets get some of these storms in here and shake things up a bit.
