  1. Accidents are fun... Glad she's alright. Now it's big flakes but after a few hours of rain, and it's still 34*, over the .3/.4 from this afternoon over frozen ground I have a nice .2-.3" deep layer of slush on everything. This carp is going to freeze up hard.
  2. Now it's big flakes accumulating white rain. I went out and the driveway and street are a couple of tenths of slush that splashes when you step down. This stuff ought to freeze up really well in a few hours
  3. More like right along the Taconic spine from southern Putnam County then it goes east just south of the Dutchess line.
  4. Temp is up to 36 and it's still pouring rain but the wind has moved around to SSW. From the radar it looks like the snow line is about 4 miles to my WNW. At this point I just want it not to change to snow and to stop precipitating before the front moves through. If it does change to snow the ice will be terrible.
  5. Pouring rain here now. Why do I get the feeling that the cold is going to move in and I'm dealing with another ice storm... Fark
  6. All rain here now Looks like we've got another icy mess ahead of us.
  7. From being so wintry this afternoon it went to white rain right as it got dark and washed away what was on the ground. It never stopped snowing but it might as well be rain Current temp is 33 with light to sometimes moderate snow.
  8. I don't think I've had more than a liter or two of soda a year for the last 10 years and that's only because I have a thing for rum and cokes. I drink a couple of glasses of red wine a week and generally prefer lagers (high in antioxidants) and stouts but for the last few years have been down to a total of 8-12 drinks a week max with most weeks being more like 5-8 so really not drinking much at all. As much as I say I have a thing for donuts it probably doesn't (didn't) amount to more than a few a month so also not much of a factor. I eat a lot of veggies, a fair bit of whole wheat or whole grain pasta, mostly organic or free range meats and beans of some sort a few times a week but had eggs or pancakes with bacon or sausage a few mornings a week. We also use only olive or peanut oils in cooking and very little salt in cooking at home but when you eat out it's almost impossible to get away from it. I've also been extremely picky about what kind of fish I'll eat and where it's from, it's too bad that it's so expensive to buy fresh water fish or I'd be almost exclusive with it. As it is I've been eating a fair amount of wild caught north Pacific Cod, wild caught salmon (never farm raised, ever) and occasionally shellfish. More chicken than red meat and when I eat ribs it's usually dry rub rather than sauced. Overall I don't think my diet has been bad, it could always be better but considering my high level of activity I figured it would counteract a lot of the bad stuff. Would ya believe my insurance denied covering cardiac rehab and they're also resisting covering cardiologist and vascular surgeon follow up visits.
  9. 28* with very light snow/snow grains falling. .2" otg. I was just in Danbury/Ridgefield CT and there's barely a coating on the ground and it's more like 30*.
  10. They completely soaked the streets in my town with brine today. SOAKED! Now they're ghostly white. When you drive around you can hear the cars rotting...
  11. Bring money. You're not going to make any while you're living there.
  12. Re: your statement about I84. East of the river 84 jumps up in altitude very quickly. Where it crosses the Taconic spine it's just about 1k feet and the surrounding area is all over 1k. We have a great microclimate here and tend to do pretty well with snowfall and snowpack retention. If you haven't spent much time here you should come do some exploring.
  13. 3/8 was a disaster here. We got about a foot of soggy goo with a lot of wind. Tons of trees down and power was out for days after that one.
  14. Yeah it looks like it but I'll push back against a lot of it. I understand thinners due to the stents and a statin but ill try not to go any deeper than those.
  15. I'm honestly not sure what some of those other numbers look like. Until this I hadn't been to a doc in years but expect that I'll be finding out a lot about what's going on inside of me soon. I've tried to eat reasonably well but have probably been too high in carbs, I also avoid white bread like the plague. I am pretty anal about avoiding transfats and saturated fats for years but I have (had ) a thing for cookies and donuts. I'll resist the meds and pills route big time, heck I don't even do pain killers or cold medicine unless I absolutely must. I guess I've been fooling myself that a high level of activity would counter so much of the bad stuff...
  16. Well, if I go with the pre rain amount and call the storm a few days ago 4" then this ^^ would put me at 15" for the year but if I go with the post rain then I'd be at 13. I'm also having a hard time justifying using a mid November storm in the winter totals. I didn't consider the post Irene or Sandy snowstorms as winter storms and don't think the one this year should count either. I think T-giving is ok but before that doesn't feel right the same way April 1st is the tail end cutoff for me. So take that out and 3" or 5" sounds pretty terrible.
  17. Not only is it fun I'd bet that nearly everybody there looks forward to it. They need it to snow a couple of feet a week in the heart of snow season, their entire economy depends on it. There are 4 ski areas around the town that must have it and on the other side of the mountains are 4 more that also have to have it.
  18. @weatherpruf Damn dude, you got the wrong end of the stick didn't ya. Yup they've got me on atorvastatin and brilinta now. I've always had very low BP and a rather low resting heart rate that's up a little bit now but still lower than many "healthy" people. Weather talk - Looks like I might actually get an inch or two on Tuesday night/Wed. That ought to get it to ~12" for the season. Pennies, nickels and dimes might just get me to 1/2 maybe even 2/3 of average for the year. I'll take it.
  19. I saw some great shots from the Smuggs zone yesterday and today.
  20. In my case mt biking 8-10 times a month (sometimes more), hiking once or twice and assorted other activities didn't seem to make a difference and I managed to have a heart attack last month and then found out that there are two more arteries partially blocked. Funny thing is my cholesterol numbers aren't terrible but apparently my body just doesn't process it well.
  21. My understanding of eggs, yolks and good vs bad cholesterol is that the yolk is fine and provides HDL until it reaches the temperature where it begins to harden and there is a chemical change and it becomes LDL. Because of this understanding I've mostly tried to eat eggs over easy for the last 10 years or so. I do love me some Mexican omelets and breakfast burritos though.
  22. You only feel teased because you're a weather geek and know more than the average person around here. Most people only know it isn't snowing and they're hardly disappointed.
  23. You guys wouldn't have made it through the 70's, 80's and 90's. Yeah we had a couple of storms but 4" was something to freak out about.
