  1. There was a noticeable increase in accumulations as you went east from where I am in Mahopac (NY) through Danbury and then towards you. It was definitely elevation based too.
  2. I am so looking forward to getting back on top of my game. I really want this week to be warm and all of the snow to go away so I can get back out on the bike but I know that's not going to happen. I might try to get out and ski a little bit next week when it warms back up and see how that goes.
  3. Woo woo I'm right about 30" for the season now I'm only ~20" below average
  4. I'm seeing reports of 10-12 in CT. My 9 is down to about 7 now, QUICK compaction! Makes me wonder if I had gone out at 4 (or earlier) rather than wait for coffee and such if I wouldn't have measured more than 9. I had a pretty good round of wind a little while ago and the temp dropped 2*, it's still breezy but calmed down a bit.
  5. I just did a little walkabout and the lowest measurement I got is 8 and the highest was just shy of 10, most are right at 9" so... 9 it is. It's some heavy, wet stuff!Temps ranged from the 30 it is now and 35 when the snow started and it had been in the low 40" during the day so I suspect the lowest layer is real mush and this will compact very quickly. Get out and measure early. There must have been some crazy good snow growth especially towards the end because the flakes in the top inch are huge. I really should have gotten up during the snowfall because it was about 3" when I fell asleep around 12 and 9 when I woke up at 4 and it was done snowing.
  6. I'll throw some clothes on in a few minutes and go measure but eyeballing it I'd call it 8+ and possibly near 10. What a surprise
  7. At least 3" down now. 31/29/SN-SN+ with good growth as it's coming down at about 1"/hr now. Snow is sticking to everything so hopefully Walts concern about power outages doesn't come to pass.
  8. 31/29/SN just shy of 1" now. So far it looks like my worry about warm air isn't coming to pass but it has been snowing for 4 hours and I'm still under 1". Hopefully rates come up significantly later and flake size gets better. If I'm going to have an all snow storm I want it to be 'for real'. I'm not looking forward to more single digit temps this week though
  9. Ya think? Rt 6 FTW It started as all snow here about a half hour ago and the temp is dropping pretty quickly. It was 45 @ 4pm and it's 34 now.
  10. Yeah right, what a beautiful morning out there. It doesn't look like a snowstorm is incoming does it? Is there a place for soundings for KDXR and KPOU? I'm still trying to learn to read them but find some aspects to them quite useful already.
  11. @Juliancolton I hope you're right. It sounds like most folks in the storm thread are pretty comfortable with it not being wet here at all. I don't trust any benchmark track storm with strong easterlies this close to the water.
  12. I'm not liking the rain to start the storm in my forecast. That rarely makes for a good "winter" storm here. I'm just a bit too close to the water especially if the wind turns east with a southerly component to it. It's like the warm air banks up against the Taconics a few miles to my northwest and leaves me more wet than white especially being on an easterly aspect that's open to the south. I know it's supposed to cool significantly during the storm but I end up with warm air trapped for a while and it usually gives me a period of indeterminate mixed precip before the flip to snow. With as cold as it looks to be behind the storm there's going to be some ugly ice here. I really hope the wind turns northerly ahead of or as the storm moves in.
  13. Oooh I'm almost at 20" for the year now Fkn plow went down the street so fast the last few days they've broken up the pothole patch in front of my house. This morning it threw rocks 20 feet up the lawn and pummeled the side of the car in the driveway with asphalt chunks up to 3" and a ton of gravel.
  14. No I want 70* even more now. Not being allowed to go out and do "stressful" things like shoveling or riding my fat bike means I'm essentially trapped inside until it melts and dries. Heck, I'm stressed just thinking about dealing with my driveway until this stuff melts, my car is trapped because I can't move the plow pile and it only has 4.5" of clearance.
  15. 1" is generous for what I got this morning. It was well under that on what was bare ground yesterday and 1.1 on the cars. At least it was fluffy and I was able to use the leaf blower to clean the driveway. I always enjoy doing that especially when a neighbor sees me and does a double take
  16. ^ Same. It looks more wintery than it has in a while. Whoda thunk, it can snow two days in a row here
  17. Bummer. White or paper birch is hard to come by.
  18. I'm really over this winter. My driveway is still a block of ice and it's a hassle to get the cars in without them sliding into some weird position. There's a reasonable walking path and the lower 25 feet is relatively clear but narrow. It's been cold without the prize and I haven't been able to get out and do the things I like to do and the ice has been annoying. I want a few inches of snow out of this midweek storm but don't want it as much as I want warm and dry. Julian, did you ever cut up that birch that fell in your yard a while back?
  19. Did anybody else see that the communications tower at the top of Sugarloaf (ME) blew over this afternoon while it was blowing ~130mph? There are some great pictures floating around on Facebook. Crazy conditions on the high peaks around New England tonight. I saw Mt Mansfield avg at 108 with gusts to 132 at 7pm and Mt Washington at 171mph! There was surprisingly little damage here from the wind today. Some branches and a tree here or there but a lot less than I expected. I'd like to think that all the weak ones were culled over the last year or so but I know that's not true.
  20. I both enjoy and dread really windy days around here anymore. I love the sound of the wind screaming through the trees but really dislike losing power to downed trees and branches. I have a bunch of stuff to do early tomorrow with the whole family in the car, gonna try to stick to bigger roads without as many trees hanging over the roads.
  21. Yeah what is on the ground locked up again last night. I'm thinking that the stuff that's still here is more durable than what we usually have at this time of year so I'll be curious to see how it holds up through the weekend warmth and wetness.
  22. Thankfully it's warming quickly with bright blue skies and (almost) spring sun angles. Looks like I avoided any tree damage this time.
  23. .2-.3" of ice on everything. I watched my neighbor across the street crawl up his driveway to get to his car then watched him get in to start it and it slid to the bottom of the hill all the way through his backyard. It went over a landscaping wall, bounced off a tree and spun sideways. Big body damage and it's gonna take a good sized wrecker to extract it from where it's at. Lucky guy was able to jump out before it went over the wall. This warmup today can't come too quickly.
  24. Yeah I had an inch before it flipped to freezing rain. This is getting silly, every damn storm involves some amount of ice. The only times it didn't was the coatings in December. This is horrible.
