  1. I had a round of heavy sleet around 4:15 but it looks to be rain now, temp is up to 34 here and 35 in Danbury.
  2. @IrishRob17 lol at the agenda, that's what it looks like here too. So what's the deal for tonight/tomorrow morning? Ice, sleet, rain or a bit of each?
  3. I'm still near 100% coverage on areas that aren't in direct sun for the better part of the day, IOW anything that's not south facing is still fully covered with 4-8" of sloppy sugary snow. I think the wet stuff incoming tonight and tomorrow will break it up and the warm days this week will make it go away. Stuff that is melted off is serious mud which makes me think that anything not paved will be hands (feet) off for a while after melt off. Surprisingly the lakes that are still frozen appear to be well frozen, the ones that started to melt off recently are losing their ice quickly now.
  4. So we're looking at a little bit of snow tomorrow night huh? Of course I have to be out and drop my daughter off at 6am Sunday morning for a ski trip to VT with a group from her college. At least there won't be anyone else out there at that time. How much are we looking at? edit: blah just an inch...
  5. I'm surprised at some of the lakes melting off and not recovering their ice through this cold snap. A couple of the local stations got down below 5* this morning but most seem to have been around 8*. Surprisingly cold for March.
  6. I've been wanting to check out the new brewery in (near?) Poughkeepsie. I think I made it down to 8*. Very wintry look and feel again today.
  7. Yeah it was just virga here on the valley floors. I could see it falling out of the clouds and took a ride up one of the big hills and it was ever so light tiny flakes but only over the top few feet.
  8. It sure looks and feels like it wants to snow again now.
  9. I'm trying to decide if I should go out and clear it with the leaf blower while it's still cold and fluffy like I did that day last week.
  10. It snowed overnight, a nice thick coating, looks like 1/2" or more. Surprise So that means it snowed 6 out of 7 days. Between that and single digits in the first week of march it's a heckuva way to run a crappy winter.
  11. It's so dry the meltwater is evaporating rather than puddling or running across driveways and streets.
  12. Stations around me ranged from 8-14 for the low this morning, up here on the hill it was more like 15. I was just outside getting some stuff done and it's nice in the sun, looking forward to a nice crisp day.
  13. There was a noticeable increase in accumulations as you went east from where I am in Mahopac (NY) through Danbury and then towards you. It was definitely elevation based too.
  14. I am so looking forward to getting back on top of my game. I really want this week to be warm and all of the snow to go away so I can get back out on the bike but I know that's not going to happen. I might try to get out and ski a little bit next week when it warms back up and see how that goes.
  15. Woo woo I'm right about 30" for the season now I'm only ~20" below average
  16. I'm seeing reports of 10-12 in CT. My 9 is down to about 7 now, QUICK compaction! Makes me wonder if I had gone out at 4 (or earlier) rather than wait for coffee and such if I wouldn't have measured more than 9. I had a pretty good round of wind a little while ago and the temp dropped 2*, it's still breezy but calmed down a bit.
  17. I just did a little walkabout and the lowest measurement I got is 8 and the highest was just shy of 10, most are right at 9" so... 9 it is. It's some heavy, wet stuff!Temps ranged from the 30 it is now and 35 when the snow started and it had been in the low 40" during the day so I suspect the lowest layer is real mush and this will compact very quickly. Get out and measure early. There must have been some crazy good snow growth especially towards the end because the flakes in the top inch are huge. I really should have gotten up during the snowfall because it was about 3" when I fell asleep around 12 and 9 when I woke up at 4 and it was done snowing.
  18. I'll throw some clothes on in a few minutes and go measure but eyeballing it I'd call it 8+ and possibly near 10. What a surprise
  19. At least 3" down now. 31/29/SN-SN+ with good growth as it's coming down at about 1"/hr now. Snow is sticking to everything so hopefully Walts concern about power outages doesn't come to pass.
  20. 31/29/SN just shy of 1" now. So far it looks like my worry about warm air isn't coming to pass but it has been snowing for 4 hours and I'm still under 1". Hopefully rates come up significantly later and flake size gets better. If I'm going to have an all snow storm I want it to be 'for real'. I'm not looking forward to more single digit temps this week though
  21. Ya think? Rt 6 FTW It started as all snow here about a half hour ago and the temp is dropping pretty quickly. It was 45 @ 4pm and it's 34 now.
  22. Yeah right, what a beautiful morning out there. It doesn't look like a snowstorm is incoming does it? Is there a place for soundings for KDXR and KPOU? I'm still trying to learn to read them but find some aspects to them quite useful already.
  23. @Juliancolton I hope you're right. It sounds like most folks in the storm thread are pretty comfortable with it not being wet here at all. I don't trust any benchmark track storm with strong easterlies this close to the water.
  24. I'm not liking the rain to start the storm in my forecast. That rarely makes for a good "winter" storm here. I'm just a bit too close to the water especially if the wind turns east with a southerly component to it. It's like the warm air banks up against the Taconics a few miles to my northwest and leaves me more wet than white especially being on an easterly aspect that's open to the south. I know it's supposed to cool significantly during the storm but I end up with warm air trapped for a while and it usually gives me a period of indeterminate mixed precip before the flip to snow. With as cold as it looks to be behind the storm there's going to be some ugly ice here. I really hope the wind turns northerly ahead of or as the storm moves in.
