Now one of the debaters has introduced that the net global cloud cover has been decreasing. This is the first time I have heard this. I just assumed the opposite, since warmer air holds more moisture?

I'm having a civil discussion (or so I think) on a social media site. I was under the impression that the oceans were absorbing CO2, which has led to increased warming of the oceans. The other person said that according to Henry's Law, as the oceans warm, the they degas CO2. Does anyone have an in depth explanation? My naive assumption was based on something I had heard years ago. Earlier projections on the warming global temperatures were thought incorrect during a decreased period, I believe that occurred in the 1980s? The explanation was that the oceans began absorbing CO2, which slowed the atmospheric warming during that period? Perhaps I remembered incorrectly, which wouldn't be the first time.

Sorry, that is contradictory. I laugh when I see people wearing sandals shorts, a coat and a winter ski hat. -

Dunno. Most TDs form coming off the coast of Africa. Depending on conditions as they cross the Atlantic, they begin to deepen. I know once a Tropical storm is formed, they can explode when they hit warmer waters, in the Caribbean and Gulf. It would be simplistic to say that just because the Western Atlantic is warmer than normal that we will have more Tropical systems, but it would be a decent (somewhat blind) guess? -

There are many factors that go into Hurricane Season predictions, but the easiest is to assume that the ultra warm Gulf would enhance any system? Looks like the Hurricane season predictions will be wrong 2 years in a row? -

Lifeguards, although certified, are not "full time" employees. They would have to have several shifts, meaning hiring even more to extend the hours. I am surprised in NJ that they even allow paying to get onto the beaches, since any land directly affected by the daily tides is considered public property, meaning you can't prevent anybody from being on it. I had a bayfront house on Barnegat Bay, until Sandy took it away. While not affected by riptides, I always tried to keep an eye on my kids, being right on the water. Signs are posted. If you live down near the ocean beaches, you would have to keep your young children from going to the beach without guardianship. Easier said than done. Should people be prevented from walking near the surf in the evening? I can't say. When I was 18, I went into the ocean and there was an extremely strong under tow. My friend had to escort me out of the ocean even though I was only waist deep. Gotta respect the ocean...
