Took this week off and did some skiing at the river and one last ride out of North Lovell, ME headed up to Evans Notch. Skiing has been phenomenal and riding was better than expected.

Lots of snow just north of where I am in Harrison. Bridgton/Harrison is basically melted out but Waterford north there is still feet on the ground. Walking around off the sled today and I was postholing 3+ feet in spots. Looking forward to chances over the next 10 days.

Since I began tracking WSWs for my area (winter 06-07) we've had warnings posted 74 times, or an average of 5.7/winter.  2018-19 has had 6, the most common number.  Most was 9 in 14-15, least was 2 the next year.  Of the 74, 38 (51%) have verified in the forecast range - I use the latest GYX range prior to the storm commencing, always within 12 hours, sometimes with a few flakes already in the air.  Nine have overperformed the range, 27 underperformed.  18-19 has 2 in the range and 4 under it.  Only 3 events have reached the 7" threshold for warning criteria.  This in a winter with total snowfall nearly a foot above average.  It's the year of P-type issues and tiny flakes.  (And long-duration snow cover.)

If you're comparing to frcst range, do you you end up comparing to the low end or high end of range? Anotherwords, if frcst was for 6-10", and you got 7", is that considered "overperfomred" (compared to frcst low side of 6") or underperformed (compared to 10" high side range)?

  3. Lovely pics.  My earlier post noted that Google Earth listed 815' as the elevation of the pond.  Those pics suggest the camp is on the lee shore for NW winds, which would mean a lot of drifting once the ice has caught.
Lol, just a wee bit of driftingFB_IMG_1554149927435.jpeg

  4. Can't see Northfield from here, but I'm sure folks here know that totals can vary across a short distance (both horizontal and vertical.)  On March 10 my pack was 1" taller than at the Farmington co-op.  On March 29 (their data for 30-31 not yet on Climod) I had 11" more.  My place in the woods holds pack well, though most near the house are bare-limbed ash and maple.  The Farmington site is more open, with scattered trees.

Nice clean-looking snowbanks at Roxbury.  Do you know the elevation there?

Not off hand. They are right on Roxbury Pond. I want to say around 700'

    Couple pics from last Summer

  5. We have seen a big drop in squirrel and chipmunk populations at my house.  Bobcats, foxes, fishers, and owls ftw.  We have all of them on my property

Something (mice?) made a nest in my wife's engine compartment though.  MAF sensor ftl

Those little bastards made a mess of my brand new truck last year when I had to keep it parked outside for a few weeks. I'd set a trap, kill one, thinking they were gone, then another week later, pop the plastic engine cover off and another nest appeard:thumbsdown:

  6. Went up to the NEK to snowmobile yesterday.  They got pummeled with snow, over 2' in some areas.  We parked at the state park beach in Island Pond and rode up to Norton on the Canadian border.  It was a beautiful day to be outside.
