  1. I expect to see some glaciers when I go to glacier NP but most are gone, only 26 remain and some cannot be considered glaciers any longer. Either way I'll be seeing snow before ya'll this year. @TugHillMatt https://www.nps.gov/glac/learn/nature/glaciersoverview.htm At the end of the Little Ice Age around 1850, there were about 80 glaciers in what would eventually become Glacier National Park. In 2015, the last year with satellite imagery available, there were 26 named glaciers that met the size criteria of 0.1 km², nine fewer than in 1966. Of the 26 remaining in 2015, some may now already be too small to be considered glaciers. In addition to the roughly two dozen named glaciers that are monitored by the U.S. Geological Survey, the park also hosts several unnamed glaciers, about a dozen rock glaciers, and many snow fields.
  2. If Cuomo wasn't under investigation you can almost guarantee that he would have a statewide mask mandate by now. He has bigger things to worry about.
  3. This is great. My entire main friends group are so anti vax its insane. One of them works in the hospital in Ortho as a Physicians assistant and his mom is a RN and also anti vax. Feelsbadman.
  4. You can check glacier national park webcams. You can see how bad the smoke is in some spots. https://www.nps.gov/glac/learn/photosmultimedia/webcams.htm I hope its clearer in 3 weeks, but never know. This is still worth it imo.
  5. That's my kind of map. I leave for out west in 13 days so want to enjoy the last little bit of summer. Hopefully we get a warm September, its been pretty standard to get those last few years. Been a long time since below normal Sep.
  6. You're too good at fantasy, no invites. Sending you link now.
  7. The vaccine definitely works Pfizer and Moderna are both 93% effective against Delta at month 6, pretty impressive. This website also provides further evidence of how effective the vaccines are. Breakthrough cases that require hospitalization of the non-vaccinated is like .003%. https://www.kff.org/policy-watch/covid-19-vaccine-breakthrough-cases-data-from-the-states/
  8. That's why we need to stop keeping track of cases and only hospitalizations/deaths.
  9. The west has been hot for a long time. Has to be a record breaker out there. Ready for the inevitable switch from Nov-Mar. It's been driven by a record +PNA, check this out. Insane! This would be a great winter pattern for us.
  10. NFL season starts tonight! Does anyone play fantasy football at all? I join 5-6 leagues a year, I'm addicted.
  11. Everyones reaction is different. Look at this kids reaction to covid. https://twitter.com/FakeNewsHuntres/status/1422631652036018178
  12. This is pretty scary. https://twitter.com/FakeNewsHuntres/status/1422631652036018178
  13. Going hiking up in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming for 2 weeks at end of this month. Really hope the smoke has cooled off just a little bit.
  14. Mandatory vaccines are coming if Pfizer gets FDA approval. 4 weeks is pretty soon for full approval. https://www.woodtv.com/covid-19-vaccine/report-pfizers-covid-19-vaccine-could-receive-full-fda-approval-by-labor-day/
  15. I went to Erie county court building last week Weds and they required a mask even though I'm vaccinated.
  16. I think we see what happened last year. One final winter wave Nov-Feb before this fizzles out. We saw a summer wave last year in the southern states just like last year. It then dissipated and came back stronger in the winter.
  17. Did you see Covid wasn't found in any genome sequence of animals, the first to ever have that happen? Makes me think it really was from a lab.
  18. At least we got a good test run on what to do and not to do. If a virus as deadly as Ebola was contracted as easily as covid was I wouldn't be leaving my house.
  19. It's extremely contagious but less deadly. Can you imagine if the bird flu/ebola was as contagious as covid. That is the real pandemic that is coming sometime in the future. "The Delta variant is more transmissible than the viruses that cause MERS, SARS, Ebola, the common cold, the seasonal flu and smallpox, and it is as contagious as chickenpox" https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/30/health/covid-cdc-delta-masks.html
  20. There is a new variant every other week and with every new variant the vaccines are weaker and weaker against as would make sense with an evolving virus. To eradicate the virus with vaccines as delta mentioned it would take an enormous almost impossible effort. To vaccinate 5-6 billion people within a few months. By this time next year I bet our initial vaccines are 10-15% effective.
  21. I guess the counter argument to that is if the vaccines are effective you’re protected.
