  1. Dec 2001 had some insane piles across the area. Even more off the Tug.
  2. Buffalo Bills and Sabres are requiring covid vaccines to attend games. A bunch of my friends are so mad lol. I'm like I'll buy at a discount.
  3. West seneca has been the focal point of almost every major event the last 30 years. Even the Dec. 2001 event they got over 70". You get more events the farther south and southeast you go but the big dogs have a target from Buffalo to Hamburg usually. Makes sense as you get the entire fetch of the lake.
  4. I did not know you lived in Buffalo before moving to Rochester. I grew up on the west side of Buffalo for this storm and remember jumping out the 2nd story into a giant snowpile in the front of the yard. We lived on Breckenridge road and each side had cars parked as there are no driveways so the entire road was a giant snowpile. That was the storm that set off my fascination with weather. We lived in a duplex my mom/dad on the bottom floor and my uncle/aunt above. We had so much fun making snow castles during that one. In regards to the radar, it looks like this was the first real event that it was tracked. Buffalo's new Doppler radar was available for this entire event and it worked extremely well. The low 0.5 degree elevation angle allowed us to pinpoint the location of the snowbands to the nearest mile or two around Buffalo ...an immense aid in doing Nowcasts and SPSs. The suppression of ground clutter worked perfectly. We were even able to see the edge of the Lake Ontario band as far east as Oswego and some activity near the southern edge of Georgian Bay. The BUFKIT and BUFKITE model profilers were excellent in timing of wind shifts and associated band movements ...but there was a slight problem on Lake Erie with the northward movement of the band on Sunday morning. Both models worked almost perfectly in forecasting veering winds during Saturday evening...with the NGM furthest south at about 265 ...but the NGM kept the winds at that angle for Sunday...while ETA was closer to 250. Actually, the bands moved north to a 240-245 vector for most of Sunday.
  5. Got a feeling an event like this is coming for Buffalo this year. How many people were in Buffalo to witness this one, still holds the record for 24 hour snowfall at kbuf. At bottom of page you can see the radar for it, unreal snowfall rates. Over two feet of snow fell in about eight hours across most of the city of Buffalo and its near northern and eastern suburbs during Sunday. https://www.weather.gov/buf/lesEventArchive?season=1995-1996&event=G
  6. It's pretty rare to go 3 years in a row with below average snowfall, so at least we have that going for us heading into winter. It hasn't happened since the 1980s. @TugHillMatt
  7. 2 below average winters in a row here, historically it is rare to go 3 in a row, so going above normal snowfall for our area. 3 below average snowfall years hasn't happened since the 1980s.
  8. I'm sure some of this might be true as I know the democrats had an agenda to get him out of office the second he won the election. However, I heard trumps voice in these recordings and the stuff he asked for was absolutely threatening the very integrity of our democracy. They interview a few pretty stout republicans that Trump thought would side with him.
  9. I watched a documentary on the election and how Trump tried to get it overturned last night. I really do think he thought his republican friends would support him when he called them to make some "exceptions". There are recorded phone calls and verified documents showing him, Rudy, and his people at the white house trying to get them to say it was a stolen election. Maricopa counties and Georgia are the 2 main spots. They said if a few republicans decided to commit fraud it would have been a different outcome. I do support having photo ID when voting, but when you try to undermine democracy. I'm not sure how anyone can support that.
  10. Also this...the extra unemployment ended, so will be interesting to see if this maintains. There are about 1 million more job openings than people looking for work https://www.cnbc.com/2021/08/07/there-are-about-1-million-more-job-openings-than-people-looking-for-work.html
  11. north town special tonight. Looks to be some training on the that line as well.
  12. In terms of which side I vote for the climate and health care are my 2 biggest issues by far. So despite me being more fiscally conservative the first 2 issues take paramount to anything else.
  13. If you include this month 7 straight above normal Septembers. 12/22 have been above average or 54.5% since 2000 Feb 2015 stands out so much, what a crazy month that was.
  14. we sizzling for rest of September, might close my pool in November.
  15. Bills need to get their act together. If they play like they did on Sunday, they could lose to Dolphins too.
  16. A few trees down in the area. Looks like Fredonia got highest wind gusts https://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/reports/210912_rpts.html
  17. Great lighting show, decent winds, heavy rain. Not as strong as the radar depicts.
