    Leaf change is beginning to show up in earnest now. Driving back from Sylva this morning I noticed Fall colors along 74 coming up the mountain to the Parkway. Around the house, some trees are dumping now and even the Poplar trees are showing yellows and beginning to fall. Looks like a prolonged rainy stretch coming this Friday extending well into next week.

    I had a couple of rounds of showers today which kept temperatures in the low 70's. The upcoming week is likely our last here in the mountains with highs in the low 80's.

    I'm beginning to see some consistency in the the various models that the first shot of chilly air could arrive in about 10 days. Fingers crossed that those models are correct!

    Cooler air has finally arrived. Currently 66 at the house. Looks like the mid to upper 50's for lows in the morning.

    Another day and another heavy thunderstorm in the Valley.

    A nice evening for watching Football! Light northerly breezes filtering in dryer air has arrived!

    Severe Thunderstorm Watch hoisted for all of Western NC until 8 PM. We've been under the gun with constant heavy thunderstorms the past hour with frequent lightning. This is ahead of the main line moving in near the border.

    First shower of the day is falling in the Valley. I'm getting some early leaf fall as well with black cherry and poplar trees around the house.

    My high was 82.

    Looks like rain chances increase as the weekend approaches with cold front dropping down. I see GSP has dropped the possiblity for Heat Advisories outside the Mountains the rest of the work week. My high yesterday was 81.

    The dry cool air was nice while we had it! Moisture is returning and appears Friday into possibly early Saturday is our best chance of rain.

    The models are suggesting that moisture returns mid week and could continue into the weekend. It appears a frontal boundary stalls nearby and further enhance the potential for heavy rainfall amounts. Temps look to be near normal to end out August for the Mountains. Daylight continues to dwindle as Fall is quickly approaching.

    Nice cool morning in the Valley. I had a low of 61 at the house and a nice breeze out of the NW. I see Mount Mitchell had a low in the 40's. Tomorrow morning we may make a run at the upper 40's here!

    Looks like an early taste of Fall will arrive this weekend extending into early next. My point and click forecast is showing low to mid 50's for morning lows!

    Woke up to 60F this morning. Nice airmass change!

    I got the property cleaned up and ready for our guests arriving tomorrow afternoon in the Short term rental. The sound of chain saws nearby all day and the neighbors above cutting down trees. I believe that's was the worst storm since Fred 5 years ago for our part of the Mountains.

    I have a mess to clean up tomorrow with the large limbs and branches down, but I never lost power. Crazy lightning/thunder still ongoing, but the worst is over here

    Big time severe storm just hit. Lots of damaging wind gusts exceeding 50 mph. Lot of large limbs down all around the house and I heard and felt trees coming down above the house.

    No rain today here at the house, but chances look better tomorrow. I'm starting to see signs of the Eastern trough becoming active again through the end of Meteorological Summer. Fronts and lower dew points are looking pretty good to end the Month.

    Thunderstorms started early today. Frequent lightning with the current cluster in Haywood County.
