  1. Nice! I bought a new station (just delivered yesterday) and am thinking of getting a lightning sensor for it (if anything, as a geek option since they are obviously not as accurate as the pro detectors ).
  2. Kinda delayed based on how often the USGS gauge updates on the Wissahickon (the "at the mouth" gauge which is where it comes out into the Schuylkill) but it is starting to register whatever is flowing into it (11 am update) - I don't live that far from the Cresheim Creek (which is a feeder to the Wissahickon Creek) and that little creek runs at the bottom of several hills and floods Cresheim Valley Drive all the time with even just run-of-the-mill heavy rain.
  3. And thank you! Since we have had wet conditions the past week, I know the ground is saturated in this area of the city (1.29" even before today, from 7/22 & 7/23 rainfall).
  4. And the summer of azz follows your winter of azz no matter where you are.
  5. I haven't been out but I know some places right down the street (and hill) from me that tend to flood with rain rates like that. I got 1.48" of rain between about 9:20 am and 10:20 am where I am (Chestnut Hill). The highest rate on my station was 2.41"/hr at 10:09 am.
  6. Wow. Report of Frankford Creek rising 6 feet in 45 minutes and right on out of its banks from that stationary blob of rain. Currently overcast and misty here and 75.
  7. Am almost at 1.50" of rain just from that alone. Currently sitting at 1.65" for the day (1.48" from my earlier total). That brings my July total rain up to 9.57" (so far). The heaviest portion finally moved just south and east of me and the sky is making an attempt to brighten a bit.
  8. Hello Mt. Holly? We got a cell sitting stationary right over NW Philly. Now up to 1.52" (1.35" in the past hour).
  9. Another intensified cell just blew up and threw me past the 1" rain mark total (since midnight) for today. Currently at 1.17" (1.00" at post time more since just after midnight) with temp 74 and heavy rain. ETA - now at 1.29" (2"/hr rates again) for the day and with the antecedent wet conditions, this may cause ponding and whatnot.
  10. Well this thing evolved into a little thunderstorm with just over 2"/hr rates. Already have 0.66" added onto my last report (total 0.83" day total now at post time). I suppose when it crosses the Delaware River to Jersey, it'll finally get an SPS there.
  11. Well the bright overcast didn't last long and I'm getting rain again. Just as I typed this, the skies opened up and a pop-up blew up right over me with almost 1"/hr rates. Currently 75 with a rain shower. In the meantime, this morning offered the rare opportunity to turn the oven on and get a casserole in and out, and not have to worry about long-lasting house-as-furnace.
  12. Got a couple hundreds more of light rain this morning and the sky has been brightening and finished up (so far) with 0.17" from overnight and earlier this morning. Currently bright overcast and 74.
  13. Figured the stuff out west would move this way but wasn't sure how much it would hang together but it did (mainly because of the front moving it along). The lightning/thunder woke me up around midnight and deposited 0.09" just before 1 am and the on and off light rain has deposited another 0.05" since, with a total of 0.14" at post time. Was able to grab a snapshot of that stuff that woke me up. Currently misty and 73.
  14. I also have some potted tropicals (plumeria, stephanotis, hibiscus) that feel right at home and are starting to bloom! Meanwhile I'll take the AC thank you.
  15. I have some Italian basil, Thai basil, and Holy basil that I started from seed this past spring, but were delayed going out into my vegtrug raised bed planter because of the winter-in-May that we had (couple days of frosts/freezes around Mother's Day). But in this environment, they are just basking in the heat and humidity. Of course the lettuce bolted.
  16. I think today will break my 6-day streak of 90+ days. The rain and overcast this morning seemed to work its magic. So far today, my high has been 88 and we're getting to what is usually the hottest part of the day. Of course that rain helped to feed the sauna. My basils love it though! Currently 88 and partly sunny with some possible pop-ups that appear to be moving this way from the west.
  17. And looks like that is it for the morning (so far). Finished up with another 0.02" for a morning total of 0.72", Currently partly sunny and 77.
  18. And that band held together and is passing over me now. Getting a heavy shower, with an additional 0.12" at post time, for an event total of 0.70" and it's 77. Looks like that might be it for this morning as it looks clear to the west.
  19. And the sun tried to pop out briefly about 15 minutes ago but is more in and out now. Meanwhile that line to the west is holding together and barrelling this way, so it'll end up being like self-destruct sunshine soon! Currently mostly cloudy with breaks of sun, and 75.
  20. And sure enough, those little pop-ups have been coming right over me and so far (at post time), deposited another 0.19" in a >1"/hr heavy shower (total for the event now at 0.58"). This time, it looked like it wanted to be hail but had melted before hitting the ground, thus the huge rain drops (which is something that has been more common here the past decade or so - the exception being earlier this month where I actually had hail make it to the ground). There appears to be another line that formed just to the west that might hit here as well.
  21. So far got 0.39" out of that this morning. Am not sure if that stuff out west will continue moving this way or if it will start clearing and heating up the soup. There are a couple little pop-ups that formed over Roxborough/Manyunk that might swipe me. Currently 74 and misty.
  22. Getting a morning thunder-bumper. Currently light rain and a steamy 75 (already have 0.06" from it). EDIT - light rain is now heavy.
  23. A colorful one to boot! Orangey/yellowish/reddish/purple.
  24. Got 0.06" more of light rain since my last post (total 0.44" for the event so far and 0.57" for the day). Temp still 72 and it's overcast and misty. Can now see an attempt at a sunset happening to the west.
