  1. A neat observation. 42 In Rockwood MI with snow flakes mixing in and occasionally brief waves of slightly heavier snowfall
  2. I’ll take some of those leftover thunder boomers. The thunder snow and ice we got by me this winter makes excited. I’ll split it down the middle with the snow weenies and hope for more thunder snow
  3. As we reach solar maximum the chances are a lot better. It’s been really active so far so I’m sure there will be a few more chances
  4. I believe it the winds are screaming right now and I’m only a few miles to the NW of DTW. I’m glad the tree company Davy trimmed the power lines in my area that was planned for maintenance. The winds were blowing my suv around like a tin can
  5. Winds are absolutely screaming here in the DTW area
  6. I wonder what the ratios were. Hard to believe 20 inches fell without all that compaction that happens. One impressive storm none the less. The core is going over me now and kinda crazy the wind gusts came on fast in a matter of 20 mins or so
  7. With all that wet snow power outages are probably up there in the hardest hit area
  8. I keep telling my kids we are within a month of having some 70s it can happen. Then a cold front that drops a quick 2-4 behind it
  9. It was definitely a hot summer in combination of the bad logging practices. Insane how it burned a million acres in a day. If I remembered correctly when I was doing some reading on this awhile back ( I’d have to go back and find it) but the thumb fire is one of the big reasons the thumb region has a lot of farm land now. I bet you can still find some of those scars by the creek/riverbeds and around if you checked sediments. Burned all the way to the shores of Huron imagine being a boat going to port Huron or Detroit and witnessing a wall of red
  10. The thumb fire of 1881 is another one I was thinking of
  11. Wicked supercell in Mississippi going on right now
  12. That’s why I’m happy I’m getting rain. Had enough of the damage lol
  13. Even so the fact it will get very dark for a time is fascinating considering it’s mid afternoon when it rolls thru. A life goal to check off the list
  14. We also have a total solar eclipse 04/08/24. 98% totality thru most of the metro. I’ll be going to Toledo the day that happens. I’ve been waiting for that day since 2012 when I found out about it. And at some point we will have some Auroras overhead without clouds. I think we are 6/6 on clouds when it comes to the last few times they have been visible down this way
  15. Awe man I was so upset to miss these lights the clouds blocked my view. With how active this solar cycle has become and it’s still early on in it. I believe we will be getting quite a few of these maybe one even stronger. When we hit autumn or spring equinox with the way our magnetic fields works any strong solar activity is only amplified around those times. We had a G4 class storm if it was a few weeks prior or later would have possibly been a G3 class
  16. Also weren’t those some of the years we had the great Chicago fire and the Great Michigan wildfires that raged thru the thumb? If I recall on reading it was very dry for a few years before the event and with our bad logging practices
  17. With the wind I definitely don’t mind a rain as much. Share the wealth and we get the next one
  18. Great pics!! I look forward to being there when it’s a more summer like storm pattern. Love the beautiful sands and water even tho I love our Great Lake dunes
  19. I’m headed that way with the fiancé and the kids in the second half of may let me know how it is! Red tide seems to be subsiding a tad also
  20. You know it’s a tad warm when a swarm of these guys are already following you
