I'll tell you what, if there's an early start to winter and it gets cold for November and December I'd expect a pretty big natural gas spike. We're already flirting with the highest sustained prices since the GFC, will be interesting to watch electricity and heating prices going into winter.
  2. It's been dump'n on and off all day. Please baby Jesus is it too much to ask for just ONE day like this in the winter with highs below freezing? All I want is one day per year, that's all I ask.

ACE, grass or gas. Nobody rides for free.

Weird, so a moderate F3 tornado could have a computed energy higher than hurricane Katrina. Of course the comparison is a bit disingenuous since they're not the same thing and a hurricane lasts far longer than a tornado. Still, ACE seems rather simplistic in the computer age, at least to me.

Does ACE take into account the size of the storm too? Seems like a 100mph hurricane with 30mi windfield would be a lot less energy than one with a 100mi windfield.

IDK, I've got a truckload of Camellias that are 10+ft tall and they've been growing for 13yrs. Short of Yellowstone erupting, an asteroid strike (or low solar...?) I think they're safe. At this point just be happy with a few January nights where the ground freezes.

Yeah but like last year think of all the d10 kuchera snowmaps the blocking will produce.
  8. 0.4" rain overnight, wasn't expecting that. At least it's cooler because my $10k new fancy HVAC crapped out yesterday.
  9. Sun out in calvert cty too. Wind has picked up quite a bit since this morning.
  10. Ominous looking overcast skies and breezes here this morning...
  11. I think it was last summer, there was a gator loose in southern calvert county and some local came in with a crossbow and killed it. Personally I say bring on the gators, maybe they would help with the deer overpopulation?
  12. Alligator may be in St. Mary's County, official says | Local | somdnews.com Walker would not disclose the location of the lake, citing public safety. “It’s fairly close to a residential area,” he said. “We don’t want 87 rednecks going in there and trying to shoot up the area,” Edwards said. “It’s going to a preserve in Florida.”
  13. Apparently it is very wily and whenever they see it the thing books outta there. Same story says they are trying to catch it and then release it down in Florida.
  14. I read in the local paper that the authorities aren't releasing exactly where it's been spotted because "they don't want a bunch of rednecks" (actual quote) converging on the area trying to shoot up the place. SoMD....
  15. Chesapeake bay is going to start resembling the everglades. We're already part way there with AGW, apparently in st Mary's county there's been an alligator living in some pond for over a year now. Survived last winter...not that that was much of a challenge.
  16. I knew it was too good to be true having that dry spot up into Calvert county. Reality is starting to intercede. Basically the negative of a winter storm.
  17. Anybody have a link to a site that gives high-res precip totals for month to date? Similar to the iweather site but that one only goes up to 72hrs.
  18. Me neither, everything around here is covered in algae. Even the frogs in my pond look exasperated.
  19. I'd have been happy to see snow probs like that last winter ...
  20. We ended up with just under 3.25" here from the storms, again Huntingtown appears to have had a pocket of heavier rain than prince Frederick.
  21. It's really intense right now. Lightning right over my roof and pouring rain. I'd say we could end up with 3" out of this complex easily. I'm sure some water will get past my ridge vent and stain my drywall. Hate that.
  22. Sorry bruh. We're about to get pounded yet again.
  23. Another 1.25" with the storms here. We have to be around 15" for the month. You have a running tally @PrinceFrederickWx?
