  1. It seems like the NAM/HRRR are hitting upon three different rounds. Effectively, they are taking the "complex" near Pittsburgh and washing that out, but developing some early storms mostly south of DC. The 2nd round is after sundown, and that appears to be our best shot for some thunder. Then the front comes through in the early am hours. The NAM is more keen on the first round, while the HRRR generally likes the 2nd round better (nice cell coming down the Potomac on the 14z).
  2. That's the problem with storm reports. One was a branch down and another was a tree down. But that doesn't really tell you if the winds were super-strong or whether the trees are in terrible shape. I gusted higher this morning at my house than last night and I was in a pretty good storm spot last night.
  3. HRRR going with gusts in the mid-40s after the line passes. That might be more interesting than the showery line.
  4. Point-and-click puts DCA at freezing at 3am.
  5. So, I'm hoping for DCA to cool down to freezing before midnight? Ugh, congrats to yoda and mappy.
  6. BWI: 11/6 DCA: 11/6 IAD: 10/27 RIC: 11/6 Tiebreaker: 8.67"
  7. Zoysia is fantastic in the summer, but it goes dormant (brown) in the winter and takes quite a while to green up in the Spring. If you are ok with that, it is great for full sun areas. And it is so nice and lush.
  8. Only mowing on the longest setting this summer to see how much that helps.
  9. Everything is growing really well in my yard, except the raspberries, which seem to have finally bit it. One thing that I am going to do this fall is do a pre-emergent. This was absolutely the worst winter weed situation we've had, despite an otherwise healthy yard.
  10. I’m surprised we haven’t had more days like this. Nice catch.
  11. I didn’t really notice any non-snow forms here, but there were a lot of needle snowflakes which are just awful for accumulation.
  12. DCA beat me too. 9.8” on 1.01” precip. Almost perfectly a 10:1 ratio on the storm However, and I don’t know if this held everywhere, but ratios were terrible yesterday. 8:1 here. I’m guessing it was the non-accumulating snow from 7am to 2pm that did it.
  13. Made it past the 8” mark. 2.8” since 7am, most of it in the last couple of hours.
  14. Big clumped dendrites. This is the stuff that can accumulate quickly.
  15. I shoveled at 8am and my driveway/sidewalk is wet. Radar along 66 looks good. Would be awesome to get 2” more.
  16. And the plow driver spun out on my street. Not a great day to be out. ~6”
  17. 5.3” on 0.44” precip, so we did do ok on ratios.
  18. Everyone was all in on the Kuchera maps. We’re totally going to end up at 10:1
