  1. I suppose it is better that we go trough west/ridge east in September rather than July, but it does just extend Summer. Really a stagnant, gross pattern coming up. DPs in the upper 60s and 70s throughout the entire GFS run.
  2. Missed the latest 80° low on record at DCA by a degree this morning. Still should set the daily record absent a random pop-up shower.
  3. Yeah, needed the quotes. "High-end"
  4. To be honest, we mostly just discuss high-end events here and otherwise banter around. For actual forecasts, go here: https://www.weather.gov/lwx/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/capital-weather-gang/?utm_term=.ba5dba83440d There are a whole bunch of sites that have the various models, my favorites are: http://weather.cod.edu/forecast/ https://weather.us/model-charts/euro/virginia/ If you only want the raw numbers: http://coolwx.com/cgi-bin/getbufr.cgi?region=VA&stn=KDCA&model=nam&time=current&field=2meter
  5. Great weekend. Hot this week, but not absurdly so (as always, ignore the GFS surface temps). The sun going down earlier is getting really noticeable now.
  6. The earthquake was awesome. Definitely remains one of those "where were you" moments.
  7. I haven't read the whole thread, but just an FYI that the Univ. of Hawaii runs their own version of the WRF-ARW. http://www.soest.hawaii.edu/MET/Faculty/wrf/arw/arw_state_6km.html
  8. There is a very small field of researchers that use radar and other remote sensing to analyze animal movement (mostly birds/bats). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeroecology
  9. They don’t fan out in a circle, it is the angle of the radar beam that makes it look like that. As the birds go up in altitude the intersection of the beam with the birds gets further away from the radar, making it look like a circle when applied to a flat plane.
  10. Radar estimates are low today. There are places in Chantilly with 5-6”.
  11. Well over 3” on the day now. Quite a summer.
  12. I don’t know the exact accuracy, but the bolt and the thunder were nearly instantaneous. Can’t have been more than a couple blocks away and the direction is correct.
  13. No question that this is the best storm of the summer. Just had a lightning strike that somehow turned on one of my daughter’s toys.
  14. That strike was close. I may walk the neighborhood later to see what I find.
  15. 6.62"/hr instantaneous rain rate. Nice.
  16. Thunder and good rain. Keep it rolling.
  17. Gloomy day with some showers. Love it.
  18. 7-1 through 7-21: 0.91" 7-22 through 8-4: 12.00" 8-5 through 8-19: 0.49"
  19. Hoping for a bit on Tuesday to tide us over. The Wed-Fri timeframe, and even into next weekend looks awesome for nice weather. Feel bad for the West though. That is an unrelenting bake.
  20. You haven't seen my backyard I really wish my wife liked zoysia. That part of the front yard looks stellar. Fescue and this climate do not mix.
  21. 0.03” is not going to help my scorched yard. Amazing how the precip just shut off on Aug 1.
  22. I’m at 2.65”. You are trouncing me. quick edit - 1.25” of that was in the hours after midnight on the 1st. 1.40” from the morning of the first to present.
