I'm so done with this unending humidity and daily storm chances (which means I have to carry my umbrella every damn day even though Ffx misses the storms 95% of the time) that I'm seriously considering renting an AirBnb in Boise for all of next summer.

Yet another exceptionally unpleasant, sunless, stiflingly muggy morning. I can't WAIT for real fall.

The reality split the difference: sprinkles, not enough to need the umbrella, but just enough to keep me from reading while walking.

That exact same paragraph is carried over to this morning's AFD. "Latest guidance"? NWS and CWG disagree on storm chances today: NWS has a 40% pop for central Fairfax, CWG downplays it: "Can't rule out an isolated evening storm, especially north and northwest of the Beltway." Decided to live dangerously and leave the umbrella at home; let's see how that works out.

... and back to the 70 DPs. Every time we get a couple of dry days and I start to think we've turned the corner, the mugginess comes back.

Lightning and thunder last night 9:30 - 10 but zero rain.

Miserable humidity is back. 81/72 at IAD. The past few days with pleasant dewpoints I wasn't bitten by a single mosquito, now with the nastiness back I'm just getting eaten up by them. Does humidity really make a difference in skeeter activity?

Wonder if we can eke out a year without a single Atlantic hurricane! That'd be pretty exciting.

I bet tomorrow will be yet another almost 100% cloudy, ridiculously muggy day.

2019 was at least dry until mid-October, which helped lower the humidity. September 2018 had multiple days of monsoon rains, amounting to almost 10 inches, and only 14 days with no precip.

I really hope they're wrong on this. September-October 2018 was just horrible. If I wanted Florida weather I'd move there.

I'm all for a repeat of the August autumn of 1986. Sick and tired of the endless humidity.

The past couple of days, the dewpoints have been falling to the mid-60s at night and rising to 70 during the day, the reverse of the normal pattern. Getting tired of seeing 70 DPs every single day.

NWS screwed the pooch yesterday morning by putting zero pops for Fairfax County in the 4 a.m. forecast. I'm sure I'm not the only one who trusted them and left my umbrella home!

It wasn't supposed to rain today, so I left my umbrella at home. Of course it started raining the minute the bus reached the Vienna station. Nice work, NWS. Bravo.

When the dewpoint reaches 75 that's the point I wish I could just teleport home, and not have to sweat through all my clothes.

Sudden downpour in Fairfax City

Overcast, sprinkles, 70 dewpoint. Disgusting. Fall can't come soon enough. Don't know why, but muggy air always feels dirty to me, no matter what the air quality - and the lower the dewpoint, the cleaner and fresher it feels, even with wildfire smoke!! (I think it might date back to when I was a kid at summer day camp. I had to join in with strenuous athletic activities in the worst of the Northern Virginia summer, and my mother would always dress me too warm, in dark colors, so of course I got prickly heat and was pouring with sweat; to this day I despise the smell of wet grass for the same reason. And my house didn't have air conditioning back then either!)

Never thought I'd see the day when San Diego would be muggier than DC! They've been getting 70-degree dewpoints lately.

Vienna got completely skipped by the storms - just one gust of chilly wind and one peal of thunder. Looks like upper NW DC caught the worst of it though.

Finally, we're experiencing what summer should be!! Took long enough.

Automatic sprinklers going, spraying the sidewalk in front of an office building in Merrifield. Complete waste of water, and renders the sidewalk impassible. Does anyone really give a good goddamn if the grass next to the sidewalk is green or brown? I want a nationwide ban on watering anything that isn't A. cash crops, B. subsistence crops, or C. animal fodder. If you don't like seeing brown grass, then tear it out and plant cactus and creosote. FFS.
