Automatic sprinklers going, spraying the sidewalk in front of an office building in Merrifield. Complete waste of water, and renders the sidewalk impassible. Does anyone really give a good goddamn if the grass next to the sidewalk is green or brown? I want a nationwide ban on watering anything that isn't A. cash crops, B. subsistence crops, or C. animal fodder. If you don't like seeing brown grass, then tear it out and plant cactus and creosote. FFS.

I couldn't smell any smoke when I walked home at 4:45 pm. Got a little whiff when I took the trash out 45 minutes ago though.

The first time I remember smoke hitting the DC area was March 31, 1999. The fire was in the Shenandoah Valley. The date stuck in my mind because Activision's *Civilization: Call to Power* released on that date. I made a special trip to Gamestop to pick it up, and wondered about the weird smell in the air and the funny-colored sky.

Pouring near the Vienna Metro station. Waiting in a tunnel for the rain to slack off so I can finish my walk home without having to put all my clothes in the dryer immediately.

I certainly don't care for a solid week in midsummer with maybe one hour of sun per day if you're lucky. And the humidity needs to start decreasing!

Murky and muggy. A 2/10 or 1/10 day, depending on whether a storm hits while I'm walking home.

Feels downright pleasant right now compared to yesterday. Turned the AC off at 9 p.m. and the residual cool air means it's still just 80 in the hallway.

Yeah, almost every time an article from The Guardian appeared in my feed, it was "Climate catastrophe!! World ending, everyone's gonna die!!" I guess they're some of the folks pushing for "degrowth". I had to block them, because I'm damn sick and tired of seeing nothing but bad news, all day, every day.

Local Climatological Data reports from back then didn't even include dewpoints, nor are they available on XMACIS. Getting that data is really difficult.
