You all are lucky... you get to see snow, and I have to wait down here in Richmond for probably 1”... I’ll still take it, but wish I didn’t have to wait.
Would precipitation here be freezing rain? How shallow should the freezing air near the surface be in order to make sleet / freezing rain?
I understand for sleet the freezing air should be deeper near the surface, I just don’t know generally how much.
Is ice seeming like the more prominent thing with this next one than snow? I kind of get that feeling, but can’t really tell. 12z Euro was on the snowy side.
Looking icy for down here. This is going to be the one that knocks the power out... Or, the GFS is too warm and we get snow... Hopefully the latter. I want to go look at past ice storms that have happened in the area.
I could tell an ice storm had probably happened even though I didn’t know for sure, only because the trees were in pretty bad shape. It looked pretty crazy.
These clumps of flakes are falling... massive! Dime sized? It only gets heavier. Watching them explode on impact is fun. If this were a snowball fight, anyone outside would lose.
How far up can the temperature be above freezing before it starts to melt? I’ve seen some snow at really warm temperatures before, really surprising. Maybe it depends on a bunch of things?
