  1. Nasal vaccines are generally less effective than shots.
  2. It’s insane that they won’t/can’t test. Absolutely f’ing insane. Sorry that you’re down for the count, but I hope you get through it soon!
  3. I've gotten the flu a couple times as an adult, though only once since I started getting the flu shot (no quotes) every year for at least the last ten years. The last time was this year, after a long work trip during which I was shaking hands with everyone and their mother and getting very little (drunken) sleep each night. I credit the flu shot (no quotes) for helping me recover from it much more quickly (2.5 days or so) than I likely would have otherwise - but the worst of it really sucked. I've gotten plenty of bad colds and sinus infections and such, but only got the flu this one time despite it being a very contagious illness and my having kids. I wonder why...
  4. Or might not present any noticeable symptoms at all, will fight off the virus, and will be perfectly healthy when their immune system has done its job.
  5. Tell them you don't care. You're holing up because of coronavirus.
  6. One thing to note is that there could be plenty of people who have or have contracted coronavirus, but haven't been sick enough to have to go to the doctor. The informational effect of this is twofold: The virus is more widespread than is currently reported The virus isn't nearly as deadly as is feared based on the currently reported mortality rates People need to calm the F down. I wish the government could get its sh*t together to help calm fears and to put forth a united and meaningful response, but we all know that's not happening/won't happen, nor will the media lessen the sensationalism that drives clicks. People just need to do it on their own, but sadly many people can't do that. Basically, stock up on water and beer and bread and canned goods now because society will cease to function in about 30 days because of the stupidity of people.
  7. <psu> The weather doesn't care what you want. I don't know why you worry about what the weather will do, but if it affects you so much maybe you need another hobby. </psu>
  8. Next week's threat is valid. I'll be in Dallas.
  9. Yeah, but Helsinki isn’t Carroll County.
  10. Garlic has really sprouted in the last couple weeks - nice to see that every clove has produced a plant. Still yet to get set up with grow lights so I can start seeds indoors, so for yet another year I’ve ordered my tomato and pepper plants, which should arrive in the first week of April. I might go ahead and get LED grow lights and a heat map, though - would be good for starting the early leaf vegetables and cucumbers, rather than plant them directly in-ground. The best part of this year’s garden is that my new beds are fully functional from the beginning of the season, with me having built the first in late April and the second in mid August last year. Can’t wait to really get started!
  11. Alright, alright...title edit made. I’ve been preoccupied with training this week and have only been around occasionally. I hope my quick drive-by edit has made everyone happy!
  12. Garlic shoots have started sprouting in force in the last week. With temps in the 70s yesterday and mild overnight temps the last two nights, they’ve now taken off. Good thing they’re hearty and will withstand the upcoming blizzards. I’ll have to post picture of the forsythia at L’Enfant - plenty of yellow on them. Likely that the first daffodil shoots in the neighborhood have started coming up, too.
  13. Pretty sure I’ve mentioned this before on the boards, but I was in Lewisburg, PA that year. I remember heading up there from South Jersey after winter break on one of the coldest days of that winter, and Philly was covered in ice and steam from all the buildings - like a scene from a Soviet factory city on the Volga or something. We seemingly got snow after snow after snow, with an icing here and there for good measure. Not sure what we ended up with, but it had to have been 75”, give or take 10” or so. There was fairly deep snow on the ground for weeks and weeks on end - an absolutely unreal stretch of weather that I’m glad to have experienced.
  14. It’s more unlikely than likely that anyone here will see an 09-10 equivalent in this area again, but it’s not at all impossible.
  15. WAAAAAAAAAAAAG BWI: 25.3 DCA: 17.6 IAD: 29.2 RIC: 16.9 Tiebreaker (LYH): 30.1
  16. Since we're getting 8-12" next week, we're going to see a lot of revisions in here.
  17. I wanted to get my garlic in on Sunday, but it didn’t happen. Not concerned - I’ll hopefully get it in this weekend.
  18. The one year I choose to go with late picks...
  19. I may be mistaken, but I feel like that hasn't been the case the last couple years...that Richmond's first freeze was near the same time as DC's.
  20. Taking the over for 90% of the mentioned areas.
  21. Every year, my guesses end up being far too early in the season, so I'm going to push it out a little this go-round... BWI: 11/15 IAD: 11/15 DCA: 12/2 RIC: 12/1 Tiebreaker: 9.2"
  22. Wow...already? I'll be harvesting tomatoes until at least mid-October. I want to get every last fruit off the vine that I possibly can. I have a ton of maters and jalapenos that are still maturing - I'd hazard that I'll harvest 10+ lbs of tomatoes of various variety between now and then.
  23. Yesterday, we took out 50 sq ft of river rock that bordered one part of the patio we had put in a couple years ago and replaced it with sod. Painful process, but it looks so much cleaner now. Hopefully our kids (with the help of the neighborhood kids) don't destroy it. My hands hurt today.
  24. Not a bad idea. Better than killing the (poor?) thing, i guess!
