Very wintry day here. 2” from the earlier stuff now heavy snow with big aggregates in this squall. Nickle and diming is right. I’m barely over 20” for the season but have retained a pack since Thanksgiving.

I also love love love the line sakana but admittedly that won’t be most folks cup of tea. Worth a demo though. I come from a race background and typically like skis with a ton of sidecut, which is why I never clicked with the mantra

Armada declivity, Nordica enforcer, the new liberty radian, Salomon stance are all great all mountain options IMO. I like the newer ripsticks a lot since they stiffened them up, especially the black series. If you have an older pair of ripsticks before elan stiffened them up a bit you probably would like the sender. The OG ripstick reminded be a lot of the soul 7. I did not like the new blizzard anamoly series and I’ve never been a mantra fan but that’s also perhaps one of the best selling all mountain skis over the last decade so clearly a lot of folks enjoy them

Agreed. I’m kicking the can to the next period. Any snow next weekend is a win but not expecting much. Too many factors working against this gaining enough latitude for here, hope I’m wrong

And the upslope signal for Jay is looking decent later this week into the weekend. That’s what makes Jay the best mountain in the east IMO. Sure it can rain there in the winter but it’s generally just a memory within a few days. The big seasonal totals are impressive, but the lack of long recovery periods for the natural terrain is what makes it unique for the region

Tonight will be better than tomorrow. Once it sets up it will take at least 1 or 2 grooms for them to work the surface into something decently skiable and then that will only last a couple hours each morning. Pleasant hasn’t don’t a pre night skiing groom for years. The timing of this warm up could be worse from a mountain ops perspective. Pleasant still has all their rented generators on site and will be able to keep blowing lots of snow later this week.

Nice to see systems tracking in the GOM, we’ve struggled to do that over the last few seasons. Hope that continues, we’re bound to time a few of them with a decent airmass

Ya if I had to guess I’d say we’ll see continue to see some good trends over the next 48 hrs but this will end up Rt 2 north.

Decent track with a deepening SLP into the GOM. Air mass is garbage. Wonder if we can trend this to my area but I am skeptical outside of the favored elevation zones and deep interior.

2017 was my snowiest Feb locally but also included one of those shock and awe warm weeks. We melted roughly 30” of pack in < 5 days. So it’s not a binary thing, we can do both and have. Winter came roaring back that year second week of March with a region wide blizzard mid month

18-19 was the last statewide year for great sledding. Not too late for this season but running out of time. Next week will be a huge step back for most trail systems

Portland metro area has been one of the biggest snow holes over the last 10 years. Quite a few systems that missed to the south, making it an even harder pill to swallow. I’d wager southern York county has fared better than Portland metro since the 2015 winter. It’s insane/impressive that Westbrook still has an active snowmobile club

3.5” here. 14” for the season. For a pretty meh snowfall month I can’t complain. I’ve had a pack since the thanksgiving event.

I dunno. This latest iteration of the backcountry touring community is pretty insufferable and they typically lack the capacity to do any self reflection beyond their relentless pursuit of stoke. Locals were skiing there long before the arcteryx crowd from Boston showed up and GBA slapped their name on it. Locals got fed up with it and took it back, good for them. I will never share my backcountry spots with GBA, defeats the purpose.
