light snow like powdered sugar. 28/24DP

The problem with pack is that it becomes grimy and funky after a while. I need a friggin sky lift to get to the street. Should rent my driveway as a ski slope for 75 bucks an hour...snow is one thing ice another. Hacked at white concrete for 3 days and just managed to clear the steps and both landings. Companies are overloaded with service requests. Dynamite might work. Day 2 of trying to find anybody that can haul this igloo paste outta here.

The Jan 31 Potential: Stormtracker Failure or 'Tracker Trouncing

Go to facebook, its being hyped with the usual acid trip maps. "We aren't saying it's going to do anything, but the potential for a blizzard is there." In other words, 1 to 36 inches. Who's dying over toilet paper? Nobody can even get out of their house from all this igloo ice. I spent three hours yesterday hacking.

the downtown core doesn't rep the whole city either...its a bowl. Low in the center with elevation as you go NW or SE. And DC has a helluva lot more green than some other cities.

Completely different topography/climo to negotiate here with hills, narrow streets and more ice. Massive equipment we can't use here makes the difference. I've seen people in Chicago abandoning cars on the freeway. You're only as good as equipment no matter what location. It's annoying when people in other climo say stuff because its powdery snow, wide flat open and monster trucks can make easy/clean passes. It's got nothing to do with the public's ability to drive.

23 22DP....dew point rising

I honestly don't care what it could have been other than optics of seeing piles of snow. This is just as interesting and impactful. When you have a slope driveway on a hill it kills the 'fun' of clearing cars, pathways and digging out to the street.

Anyone have a clip of the radar?

Sleet heavy, steady. Now easier to see. Temp up to 22. DP rock steady at 18. Championship football. Booya.
-
Just got an alert for winter storm warning until 4AM DC proper. Buckle up, folks!
-
Rolling along in SE DC Sneet/ graupel/ icedust/ whatever the heck it is steady. 20/18DP The poor fools who shoveled earlier aren't happy...their steps are covered again. Weird...the stuff accumulates on top of cars but falls off the sides. Deep tire tracks on street. No plows.
-
18 degrees DP 16 and holding. More sugar sleet is sweet App says heavy snow 30 minutes out. Eyeball 6+ (someone out shoveling, snow is higher than the steps.) poor fools don't know more is on the way
-
Temp 17, DP 16 Solid sleet with heavier snow on the way according to my app. Est. 5-6" currently.
-
AND mountains to the west, southern jet stream to the south, The Bay to the east...yup. Scooby Doo.
-
18 deg, DP now up to 4. Sneaky accumulation. You can barely see it falling but street is white on one side. Cars look spray painted.
-
Snowing lightly in S.E. DC. 19 degrees, DP up to 1 from -4.
-
19 DP -4 Streets completely covered...in salt!

What are expected rates per hour? Is 2" possible during the heaviest time frame?

January 24-26: Miracle or Mirage JV/Banter Thread!

I've got people up in Detroit that might help by driving down trucks of frozen lake water and dumping it along the Chesapeake. -
Do overrunning systems normally toggle north and south? If say the overall shield is wide enough would these shifts not matter as much?
-
Doesn't make a lot of sense either. There's never been a large storm in my neck of the woods without some sleet that I can recall. Nothing new or unprecedented...people just stare at too many models every five minutes and convince themselves of a final solution. It's like saying "I want 23 inches not 18 just because." Either amount is crushing. What's the difference at that point?
