  1. Low of 43 imby last night and the smoke has returned
  2. Same here. Nice to see blue sky again. Don’t think we have any frost potential but should drop into the upper 30s
  3. Local weather office thinking the same possibility around here as well.
  4. Another morning of an otherworldly sunrise due to the thick smoke. Really hope tonight’s cold front can push it out
  5. I’ll take a cutter pattern all winter. Usually means we cash in or are stuck in nice cold arctic air during a Madison special. Either one is better then a Fargo special which will probably happen from time to time too.
  6. Isn’t there some sort of irrigation/watering system in place? I’m a fan of native wildflowers/grasses instead of turf lawn myself. Save the pollinators.
  7. Low of 37 last night in the city. Many of the 3rd ring suburbs got down below freezing and have frost. Very foggy this morning as well.
  8. Unfortunately we bagged a few 5min obs of 50 degrees which will be our high today before the rain moved in. Currently 47 and dropping.
  9. Here’s the coldest airport obs I can find across Minnesota. Looks like a season ending freeze across the northland. Frost advisories for the Twin Cities and points north tonight. I can’t recall an earlier winter headline that I’ve been under before. I remember being in Iowa with my parents to see general Wesley Clark speak in September 2000 and there being a frost risk not sure the date or what type of advisory was posted. Virginia MN: 29 Cook MN: 28 Bigfork MN: 27 Bemidji MN: 28 Ely MN: 27
  10. Today's high of 52 broke the old record low max of 54 set back in 1929. Record lows of 38F on the 9th and 37F on the 10th might be in play if things work out just right.
  11. Hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. Spent time in Chicago seeing some family and got to experience the seasons change on the drive back. 72 in Milwaukee when I drove through, 61 in Madison an hour later and only 50 with rain when I got to Minneapolis. Pockets of maples starting to really show color. Got down to 45 here under a thick overcast last night. We have a real shot of hitting the upper 30s in the city tonight, and potential for widespread freezes across the northland.
  12. Impressive, we made it down to 48 on the heat island.
  13. Midnight high of 76 today. Spent most of the day in the 60s before hitting 70 in a 5min ob. Certainly feels like early fall right now. Not out of the question we drop into the upper 40s tonight. Already there outside the metro A few of the usual early maples are showing some scattered color.
  14. First accumulating snow was October 12th last year, only 6.5 more weeks. Will undoubtedly take a trip to northern Minnesota sometime in sept for fall colors
  15. Every time we’ve gone through a dry stretch this summer and get added to D1 on the weekly monitor a line of storms will come through and drop around 1” which quickly catches us back up. Weird that I’m rooting for below average precipitation but in the 4 years I’ve lived in Minnesota haven’t had a year below average.
  16. This map gives a great view of how the event evolved from a straight line wind threat to a tornado threat as it moved east. Just incredible stuff.
  17. Fading thunderstorm woke me up but at least I got a laugh from the weenie that wrote this mornings afd.
  18. Made it up to 90F at MSP this afternoon.
  19. Not going to be any noteworthy heat around here but upper 80s and muggy in late August gets old fast.
  20. Pretty active afternoon across central Minnesota. No less then 5 tor warned storms right now.
  21. He definitely was a delinquent as a teen so that makes sense. His grandparents were schoolteachers in Two Harbors, last name “Sega” if you happened to have them. Not sure when or which schools they worked in. To get this thread back on track ended up with 0.41” of rain today, mostly this morning. Kept temps in check, felt like fall.
  22. Images of the flattened corn in Iowa reminds me of the images of flattened pines in the Boundary Waters after the July 4th 1999 derecho.
