  1. Required reading on cold nights like tonight. -11 at 11pm. https://americanenglish.state.gov/files/ae/resource_files/to-build-a-fire.pdf
  2. No kidding. With the prolonged stretch of sub 10 degree weather we’ve had anything over 20 will feel balmy.
  3. Another day with a high below zero at -2. Now at over 50 hours below zero and looks like we might add another couple days to the streak.
  4. Today’s high was -4, and there’s a chance we don’t see zero again until Monday.
  5. It’s -4 and we’ve been churning out the tiniest little sugar flakes for over 5 hours now. Isn’t accumulating very well, we may have finally broken the 0.1” mark.
  6. ^ Deep cold up north. We managed a single 5min ob of 1 at the airport, otherwise peaked at 0 before the snow moved in and we dropped below again.
  7. -10 currently with a high of 0 today. We failed to break single digits the last two days so our streak below 10 degrees goes on. We were last in the double digits the morning of February 5th.
  8. I don’t even need to see the northern plains section of this map to know it’ll be damn close to a shutout here with everything suppressed south. Oh well, might as well freeze Lake Superior over.
  9. ^ Tree wells are no joke. Been caught in small-ish waist deep ones before.
  10. Overnight low of -6 before the clouds and light snow moved in. Another morning with 0.1-0.2” of accumulation.
  11. Sat at 0 for 4 hours this afternoon with a couple 5min obs of 1, have since fallen back to -1 at 5pm.
  12. Low of -11 this morning. Sunny skies today will probably bring us up to 0 or 2 above
  13. Wound up with .2-.3” of new snow on just a trace of precip. NWS only mentioned a slight chance of flurries in the aviation discussion. Impressive what moisture can be squeezed out of this airmass.
  14. NWS adjusted this mornings low to -17 and this afternoons high made it to -2.
  15. -4 and snowing. I’ve only seen it snow this cold a few other times.
  16. The only saving grace (for now) is that snowpack is below average across northern Wisconsin and central/northern Minnesota. Headwaters for the Wisconsin and Mississippi rivers.
  17. GFS pitching a 16 day shutout for MSP. Zzzzzzzz indeed.
  18. Warming up nicely in Minneapolis under mostly sunny skies, -8 at 11:45am.
  19. -16 is our low in the city. Suburbs dropped to -20. Red Wing MN which is 40 miles southeast of town got down to -24, and International Falls is sitting at -29.
  20. Been stubbornly sitting at -15 for the past few hours.
