  1. Same here. The cold definitely bothers me more now than it did when I was a kid...and this comes from someone who could spend hours outside in the dead of winter playing pond hockey. I don't know if I could do it now.
  2. Agreed. Bengals got away with one on their TD right after halftime, so they can't complain too much...but the calls at the end were a bit sketchy. It turned into a flag fest after the refs let them play for the most part. I think Cincinnati made a mistake going for it on 4th down on their opening possession. Why give the Rams momentum and good field position there? Thought it put them behind the eight ball early. The Bengals need to improve their offensive line in the offseason also. They're going to ruin Burrow if he keeps getting sacked that much.
  3. What a tragedy. May he Rest in Peace. Sorry that you had to witness that. Awful circumstances and way, way too young. You're absolutely right. You just never know how much time you have left. The stuff we stress about doesn't really matter in the end and if you can't control it, why be angry or anxious about it? Find your happiness where you can and make sure you cherish your loved ones while you have them.
  4. Not a fan of the DH but it is what it is. That was an inevitable change. MLB could definitely get back in everyone's good graces and get some positive headlines by announcing a deal on Super Bowl weekend.
  5. My girlfriend and I (she's a nurse and sees a lot) say this all the time. Our bodies are so complex and so much can go wrong. It's a miracle that we're able to function properly on a daily basis and live for as long as we do. You just never know from one day to the next.
  6. Anything is possible but when I first read this, I thought it was a sketchy explanation. I hope they're not trying to cover up something more sinister (apologies for the conspiracy theory hinting) but your brain is quite sensitive. If you hit it in the wrong spot, it can definitely cause serious trauma. Maybe there was internal bleeding. Who knows? No matter what happened, he's gone unfortunately. Time to let him rest in peace.
  7. For better or worse, a lot of people are just done with Covid and the associated restrictions.
  8. Shades of Super Bowl 2014? It was 50 degrees the day of the game, followed by a snowstorm twelve hours later.
  9. Crazy stat...after no team hosting a Super Bowl in their home stadium for the first 54 years of the big game, it's now happened two seasons in a row. I wonder what kind of odds you could have gotten on that happening on one of these betting apps.
  10. I like what the Giants are doing so far. It's not going to turn around overnight but this is encouraging.
  11. Can't lie; lower-mid 50's on Saturday will feel nice.
  12. Incredible story. I like Stafford also. He's certainly been through a lot personally and spent so many years on poor Lions teams. I definitely wouldn't be unhappy if the Rams win. They haven't won a league championship as a Los Angeles team since 1951. The franchise's lone Super Bowl win to date came while they were in St. Louis.
  13. Who does everyone like in the Super Bowl? My head says LA but I'd love to see the Bengals complete this run with a championship. 30-21 Cincinnati is my pick.
  14. I think it's a byproduct of our modern litigious society. No one wants to face backlash if someone gets into an accident because they felt compelled to go to work or school.
  15. Sounds like Doug Pederson is getting the Jaguars job. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/report-jaguars-to-hire-former-eagles-head-coach-doug-pederson/ar-AATspGw
  16. Went from 50 to 33 in less than an hour. Temp was hovering between 33-35 on my drive to work (Essex and Passaic County, West Orange/Little Falls area). Roads are just wet right now but I'm definitely concerned for later.
  17. One good thing about all of this rain is that the salt will be washed away, at least temporarily. Everything has been just caked with it for the last few weeks.
  18. I'm currently projected to stay well above freezing until early afternoon tomorrow. Precip appears to be essentially over by then.
  19. No question. The practice goes pretty far back also. The Pittsburgh Penguins tanked in 1984 to be able to draft Mario Lemieux. They traded Randy Carlyle, who was a Norris Trophy winner and sent a goalie down to the minors who had been playing pretty well for them. Part of me doesn't blame them since their franchise was basically dying at the time. I think they were only averaging about 5,000 fans per game.
  20. Oh, for sure. I definitely can see the idea behind it. I just kind of feel bad for the players who are on a team during a "tanking" season. A lot of them are probably fringe players fighting to stay in the league. The last thing they want is to look bad on film when teams are evaluating them in the offseason.
  21. Yeah, a coworker was just telling me that Hue Jackson is coming out and saying that Jimmy Haslam (Cleveland's owner) offered him money to tank during his tenure as head coach there. The irony is that it guarantees nothing, especially if you don't know how to draft and evaluate talent. What has all of those high picks in the last 20+ years gotten the Lions or Browns? It might pay off for the 76ers in the NBA one of these days but it hasn't yet.
  22. Yeah, tanking is one thing. Direct financial incentives to lose is a dangerous precedent, especially in an age where gambling is becoming more accepted. Imagine an owner betting $100k on his team to lose and promising the coach a cut of the winnings if he helps to make it happen.
  23. Without a doubt. Cape May is nearly as far south as Washington DC and Arlington, Virginia.
