As of 1045 AM EDT Wednesday...Overall forecast for today remains on track with the potential for strong to severe storms persisting. Despite SPC pushing the slight and enhanced risk a little bit northward, looking at current satellite trends still feel the best potential for severe will be from southern Essex County NY northeast through VT Washington, Caledonia, and southern Essex Counties southward, and especially across Rutland/Windsor Counties where the greatest surface heating and instability will be found. Current mesoscale analysis shows what the previous forecaster mentioned in regard to deep layer shear with the strongest values >40kts at 0-6km north of the surface boundary draped along and just south of the international border, and 30-40kts southward. While not lining up as much as we`d like to see a more widespread convective threat, it still should be enough to support some organization of cells this afternoon with the primary threat continuing to be damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

  10. Closest station to us ended up with 1.4 between rounds 1 and 2. A huge drink for our gardens and no water in the basement- double win! Now I just hope the Sharon town road crew got the trees off the road.

  12. Home got hammered, lots of needed rain. I had to drive under one tree which had fallen on our road but had one end snagged up enough for me to get under. I had to go around 2 others. Round 2 looks to be an hour and half away.

As of 1100 AM EDT Monday...Bottom line it will be an active day with strong to severe storms expected this afternoon. Early morning convection exiting the area as expected and satellite imagery shows plenty of clearing to allow for highs in the mid 80s to lower 90s. Dew points already well into the 60s and this will lead to CAPE values this afternoon in the 1500-2500 J/kg range. Sufficient deep layer shear is already established over the area and will only get stronger as the day progresses. Expecting convection to develop along pre-frontal trough in the vicinity of the Saint Lawrence Valley and western portions of the northern Adirondacks of New York. Storms will quickly become organized and move into more favorable instability to push storms into the strong to severe category. With unidirectional shear looking at wind damage as the main threat, but with all the instability could see some isolated storms forming and producing large hail. Frequent lightning and heavy downpours will also accompany the storms as they move east into the Champlain Valley and the remainder of Vermont.
